Is this a call or raise against unknown? Or does it not matter?

I think three betting is close. The biggest problem with three betting is what happens if villian makes it four bet.
I agree that it's close but I probably do not 3bet here absent some sort of read or history with villain. There are a number of plausible hands he has that have your hand in jail, many of the hands you do beat have outs to beat you, and I really don't want to be stuck paying 4 bets on the turn. I don't think 3betting is truly awful (and I would 3bet pretty much any combo of jacks up), but this one is just a bit too thin for me.

I tend to just call in these spots as a default....but I guess it's close. River rolled off a 9 and I c/c for info he showed me J10. Now I know
I suspect the villain would not have bet the river if he didn’t improve.
