Pocket Aces

LA game. I raise in middle position with black Aces. Aggressive skillful player on my immediate left three bets. He can have a very wide range in this spot. He probably perceives me as being on the tighter side. Everyone else folds and I call. I normally don’t four bet regardless of what I have in a heads up scenario like this.

Flop comes J 7 6 all hearts.

I check and villain bets.

What’s my best course of action? I’m pretty sure villain will bet the turn if I only call the flop.

I would raise. He has to stay honest since we have an uncapped range and I think check/raising turn then getting 3bet is a disaster, whereas calling a raise on the turn you’ll still be up against a wide range. So playability wise I just think it’s easier to check/raise flop.

I also c/r. In LA I think I c/r/4 against most people, but there are certain villains where I’d just call down from a 3bet.

Check raising the flop is most likely the best play so of course I only called. I definitely think I have a leak in my play when I’m up against better players OOP and I either freeze or become too fancy.

So I called the flop bet and turn is now:

Jh 7h 6h Tc

I check and the villain bets.

What’s my best play having butchered the flop?

You’ve still underrepped your hand. Raise.

And fold to a 3 bet? Against most players you're toast there, unless he has the other two aces and you're fading a heart for a chop.
