Bike 40 - AQ on the button
Bike 40/80 on a Saturday night. 7 handed.
Villain is an older middle eastern guy. V sat in 2 orbits ago with 3 racks. First time V was under the gun he raised, MP 3 bet, and I capped the button with AA. V led the K high flop and I raised. V check folded the turn. MP stuck around and showed down KQ. V said something to his neighbor about MP hitting 3 so maybe he had QQ.
I think I look TAG as well as I’ve been getting good hands and hitting/holding with no real middling, interesting, tough decision hands yet.
Orbit or two later, villain is ordering dinner when I raise his BB from the button with AQo. V 3 bets and I just called.
Flop KQ2r.
V bets. I call.
Turn 4.
V bets. I raise. V 3 bets.
I mentally groan at my own shenanigans and fold.
- Would you 4 bet a mid-2000s-era TAG’s BB from the button with AQo?
- Would you just call the turn intending to call any river (or bet if checked to on the river)?
Thanks for reading.

No to the 4bet, and I see no reason to raise turn and plenty of worse hands he can barrel so I would call
What’s the point of the turn raise you are wa/wb?
If you’re going to raise the turn you should have a plan if you’re reraised.
As played I would probably just call down an unknown villain. Most opponents who reraise from the BB have big hands.
Looking back, I think I was running hot and got a bit too full of myself here trying to run over someone who I assumed was a bit of a nit. Definitely fancy played myself out of this hand and raised without even a concept of a plan. That’s probably why I can’t get this hand out of my head.
Thanks!
I would not 4bet preflop, would not raise the turn, and would plan to call every street and bet if checked to.
As an aside, I haven’t had a chance to play much in the last couple of months and am surprised to see Bike running 40. Is this a new development?
Yup, it’s busy again! I don’t entirely understand the politics that drive the periodic ping-pong the larger limit games go through between local card rooms but the pendulum seems to be swinging back to the Bike right now.
Last night had 2 40/80 tables, 1 60/120, and an 80 or 150 mix game going. Some of the recent pop could be the Big October tournament series going on too right now.
The Commerce lowered the jackpot to $50k and quads or better have to be beaten to qualify. Commerce is now dropping $2 if there’s no flop and the high stakes poker area is awful. It’s like being in a cage. They have lost most of their medium stakes limit action.
Bike has $100k jackpot and their poker room is much nicer and the food is a lot better.
Unforced error by the idiots at Commerce.
good ol commerce regressing back to their old ways. thought they had changed but apparently not.
huh good to know i'll be in LA staying at commerce in a few weeks for 20-40, I guess I should consider going to bike for a night or two too.
I played there last night. they had 6 games of 20/40 going at their highest.
some really good tables and some meh tables. had to wait for an hour to get in the game because they had a 20 person board at 4:30 pm when I got there lol
Unfortunately with the Commerce shooting them selves in the foot the 40-80 action is significantly worse at the Bike. The weaker Commerce 40 players are either not playing or playing 20-40 with a half kill at the Bike.
lol I noticed that, and it was good for me
Weird, why would moving rooms make them move down in stakes?
The bike 20 has a kill so maybe it attracted some of them to play it.
