Poker In Ontario

Poker In Ontario

Anyone have any insight into what this will mean for Ontario players in terms of the unregulated sites like Bodog, BOL, WPN, etc?

Also confirmation that Ontario players will no longer be able to access sites like Pokerstars, Pokerparty, GG/Natural8, etc?

I"m not talking about offshore and or people doing support for $1/hr. I'm talking about customer service groups that are based in Ontario. Sure, there is a % of customer supports groups based out of Canada, but a lot of the groups i'm talking about are based in Canada and specifically Ontario.

It's an international student doing support for $2/hr then.

Anyone having trouble with stars on Mac since Friday? won't update the client after reinstall.

Curious if you've changed your stance on global pools after seeing how much better the games are in the geo fenced pool.

I would like to go back to ROW. Play at any time you want, unlimited tables, and you will increase your winnings by playing in USD and cashing out to CAD.

Plus the PS client on Apple computers doesn’t work half the time anyways.

To be frank, the idea that players would make more money in a global pool is beyond absurd. Geo fenced win rates are about 4x higher. I'll sacrifice the ability to play at 9am for the ability to make 400% more money. You really want to play against a bunch of Russian stables again?

It's only recs and/or breakeven/small winning hobbyists that want ROW. Anyone who actually makes decent money in Ontario right now, the last thing they would want is to go back to global

No reg is saying "yeah, I'd actually like to play tougher opponents, in harder games, and make infinitely less money for my time"

exactly unfortunately recs are allowed to have their bad opinions that's why they are recs and they are generally the majority. They are unfortunately too stupid to know what's better for them (they would lose money less fast or even make money) . So it will always be an uphill battle.

You would think they would want to give their money to nice fellow Canadians who chat with them and spend that money in Canada instead of Russians who are muted and spend that money in Russia that is invading country's but they are not from a position of logic.

Yes, entirely. I was super against the segregation when I was a 10z grinder in the global pool. Now I am a winning 100nl player in ON, who can make a decent side income from my hobby when I choose to put in decent volume.

I found my bankroll building getting stagnant while playing in the global pool. Just a bunch of highs and lows that evened out.

Have definitely had more short term success bankroll building while playing PLO in the Ontario market.

I would be more interested in them expanding the Canadian market to include more provinces.

I believe the most likely scenario in the near future regarding expanding the player pool is that Ontario will one day join with other provinces but it'll happen slowly.

Joining with other provinces or other high income countries like the US would be the dream. Joining with RoW would be a nightmare.

Given that Stars no longer deals Omaha, what sites do? Is it only GG?

Doesn't seem to be the case when I log in. I still see Omaha games, traffic low even at peak times but still seems to be there.

Actually looks like they've expanded their omaha games to add in sit n gos, including omaha hi / lo.

Brantford is so inconvenient to drive to to go play 1/3…. Am hoping I will find a group of enthusiasts closer to home like myself! If anyone is looking for someone to take up an extra seat in a friendly game in Cambridge, KW, I would be happy to oblige!

Been a regular in the games at brantford, over a few hundred hours easy. Send a brother a PM

Thanks After taking a long break from online, I went back on Stars. However, I decided to play only on my ipad, which has a very different lobby from the one shown on my MacBook, and it now showed only NLHE, spin and go, and tourneys (I'm not a tourney player), so I thought that was all that was available. After your message, I poked around some and finally found my way to the Omaha tables. (Oops, there went my evening.)

Agreed but the former will never happen, at least not in the next 10-20 years.

The latter however seems highly likely unfortunately:

Did you guys see this? Thoughts?

It seems as though if the outcome is ROW, then the rest of the provinces get kicked out of international pools for Stars/GG and would have to comply with regulation standards that Ontario has set.

Its hard to tell if they are asking to be added back in to the international pool or simply allowing international players to sign up for the regulated ontario pools.

I have a hard time believing that international gaming sites would be ok and on board with the rest of Canada being be locked out of international play if Ontario passed this.

They are trying to make more money in fantasy sports and using poker as an excuse. so trying to **** poker players like usual

only 84% of ontario poker players are using regulated sites! but poker is 3% of their income.

so they are saying because they are losing 16% of 3% of potential poker revenue to global games that they must let us lose money to Russian bots instead!. ridiculous.

At least the other provinces might shut this bs down

Very unfortunate news.

I'm confused about what happens to the rest of Canada. Are they just not allowed to play period outside of the (from what I've heard) very ****ty software that BC, Manitoba and Quebec have currently if this passes?

Thats what is not clear to me either.

It almost sounds like Ontario wants to open up their regulated market to international play or any province that passes the same type of regulated laws.

So it would not exactly be adding back in to the global pool, but instead allowing the global pool to come to Ontario and play on their regulated platform which would still increase the earning potential of the regulated platforms and the percentage taken by Ontario.

Reread it and have clarified.

Ontario players can only sign up for regulated Ontario sites, but those regulated sites would be added to the international pools.

International players would not be able to sign up for Ontario sites, but instead the already currently available global sites. So no change for them.

So basically just adding us back to the ROW pool ,but on sites regulated by Ontario. So our money would be safer and regulated, but would up against all the bot farms and international collusion we use to play against. Good times :(

na it cant be that. the tldr is they don't make any money on fantasy sports because the Ontario pool is too small so people just play the international ones. so they want to make money by letting ontarians lose money on international sites while keeping their cut. The poker sites are supporting this so they dont have to run a ringfenced site which is more cost and less profit for them. Its doug ford government supported so the lobby is bribing

At least that's how I interpret it. They are pushing for us to play on ggpoker.com on a likely different skin.

Poker has a good case to be separated since putting us against Russians and chinese who can live off a 3$ hourly and have a massive competitive edge along with mass bots and cheaters on sites that don't want winners is certainly against what a "regulated" site should do. but unfortunately poker is only 3% of revenue so its going to be completely ignored

Yeah, and EV if this does happen, most of those 16% are still going to be using the black market sites like ACR or apps or whatever anyways, so there's no change

After I reread it I came to the same conclusion.

Regulated Ontario site (same skins we are currently using) but now back against the international pool.

As you said, Ontario now keeps a cut of the players that they already have but the regulated sites are now more appealing to Ontario players not using them since the field is once again International.

Well the last part you mentioned wont matter. the players not playing on the site are like less then half a percent of Ontario's profit. it has nothing to do with poker. The players playing on unregulated sites still wont be regulated since they are currently breaking the rules. so the same people will still play on them. They are the recs who don't care who takes their money or where they play. sites like acr are not going to become regulated and people from Ontario will continue to play there.
