Current state of online high stakes games
hello everyone ,
As a midstakes grinder on stars there is just one thing I struggle to understand , why the hell the action is almost dead in stars in the higher stakes and everyone is playing on gg poker ? While they are charging between 4 to 7bb/100 of rake , it can't be just marketting right obviously they are killing stars in terms of branding and software innovation to attract fish but you would guess that for higher stakes pros will simply play the better games that's the rational decision .
In gg some really big games are running regularly , Stars banning the chinese and russian players was obviously terrible , but I want to understand are those games in gg beatable if you play at a high enough level and why aren't those games running is stars for 0.5bb/100 rake ? As a nl200 grinder I feel like there is a big void after nl1k like you start to question is it not smarter to go play live poker , I hear some people are playing in some private apps but those as well you don't know a lot about how to access them how good is the action , cheating and collusion ect .

not sure how old you are but during the boom WSEX which was a big sportsbook at the time had 100 percent rake back on their games. I forget if it was paid weekly or monthly. Either way the place was an absolute ghost town while other sites were booming. People go where the players are. And at the time sites spending money on brining in new players were finding tons of horror shows. Meanwhile WSEX didn't care about poker, they just basically added it to the sites hoping sports bettors wouldn't go elsewhere for poker. The games were an absolute nit fest. But hey you saved on rake.
Regulations
it's just hard to move around large amount of money nowadays and every high stakes reg does it using crypto, so need crypto deposit options to play high stakes
Two reasons:
1. GG is willing to break the law and allow players play from restricted countries.
2. Crypto
Everything else, rake, rb, software, security... is irrelevant.

Money Launder much, We need an online governing body and every country minimal legislation.
Ueiga2008 much.
Someone build it. Code of conduct for all online sites. And we want to know about cheat detection statistics.
Also poker stars needs a reddit forum, and spend some money on advertising.

I think people underestimate how big of an advantage access to the Asian markets is for row GG. I’m hoping the more level playing field prevents them from getting or at least exploiting a dominant position in the US markets.
it is smarter to go play live poker. the only reason I play online is to refine my game and sometimes to play MTTs, because playing MTTs only makes sense to me if you can multitable and get a lot of hands per hour. if you are primarily a cash game player though I have no idea why you would play online instead of live, unless being able to play in just your boxers is that important to you.

You have no idea how bad some of the live games are outside USA. Full of nits all chasing the 1 rec. You are better of online when its like this.
online poker is so much better for people with social anxiety and where live poker is just too far from where you live.
also a lot of people don't want to be around shady people, and live poker is full of them.
What's more incredible is that Stars would easily be number 1 again if they just made 5-10 changes to their model. Not sure if they're trying to play nice in case by some miracle the US market comes back? Not sure how likely it is that they're doing that, but there has to be a reason why they aren't making the effort to print money again
GG being licensed in the Netherlands, and stars not, is just absurd IMHO. They either don't care that much about poker (I tend to agree on this part, its part of a parent company with other bigger businesses), or they are just incompetent (I wouldn't discount it either).

GG operates in the US with the WSOP.com brand and no one seems to care that much about the shadiness of it.

I fondly remember WSEX and their rake free model...

im dutch and would so rather to be able to play on stars than on gg
but gg has license on curacao and werent offering games to the netherlands in the period before the licensing which is why they got it
also stars doesnt seem to put much effort in getting allowed back again in the netherlands :(

They're part of a gambling conglomerate and they play by the book. They are just a percentage of the business, I'm sure all the sports betting companies of Flutter and the casinos bring much more money than poker.
The time the management took into consideration poker as the main thing and tried to be in every market and grow the game at all cost is long gone.
This happened before with party poker that was also a public traded company, it couldn't compete with private companies like FTP and pokerstars that pushed the envelope.
There is none. Until someone comes out with a site that can cater for it then we will continue in this trend
GG has the fish as you said, Pros go where the fish go
