I also think it's likely they were looking at the preflop gametree for e.g. playing the BB at 45bb with a 1 bb ante, which is cheating - at least in a fair game sense.

Yes, the rail was always wanting to know current stack sizes. Probably looking at 3bet and shove ranges at stack sizes.

I don’t mind Lon and Norm. Im not watching the ME for strategy insight, it’s just entertainment. Does it really ruin your experience when Lon says “so and so hits his 4”?

But they don't provide strategy insight or entertainment.

Re: Lon and Norm, the Thunderdome style rail, etc.

It really seems like all that is designed to appeal to very recreational viewers -- like the type of person that watched poker on TV in the aughts and played in some home games but rarely set foot in an actual card room. Using Lon and Norm is definitely a nostalgia/tradition play.

But there's a huge disconnect between that and having the even streamed on PokerGo and behind a paywall. Like, if this were being aired on cable I would totally understand the choice. But dothe types of people that want to see Lon, Norm, and a rail of drunk Bulgarians even know about PokerGo and are they willing to pay to watch? I guess based on the PokerGo chat maybe it really is a bunch of casuals, but that kind of surprises me.

Eventually it’s going to be on CBSSN, away from the dreaded “paywall!”. So it will be shown in a delayed manner, just as it was in 2003. So they are going to just edit up and use what they have.

Problem is that CBSSN is no ESPN and the product is getting worse each year. No wonder ESPN didn’t want it anymore.

While Lon and Norm aren’t the best live, much of it isn’t their fault. Characters in story are much less compelling. Also dealing with bad setting in background with a mostly uninterested crowd that can’t see or hear anything. It’s a greasy pork sandwich served in a dirty ash tray

It really is a complete joke that WSOP let this happen.

Nick and Ali deal with all of the same issues and still manage to make it entertaining. Yes they go on tangents as well sometimes but they are often actually funny and tied to the action. They make genuinely funny “characters” for the lesser known players and it gets you more interested in their play. Nick and Ali can also seamlessly switch from silly asides to hand analysis quickly while Lon and Norm will often talk right over a hand.

To me the entertainment factor when they announce vs Lon and Norm is night and day at this point.

darvin moon blatantly lied to his own rail

we've fallen so so far

poker is more popular now overall, but it's not more popular with the crowd we want it to be popular with

it's been going on for awhile sadly, they just were so blatantly open about flaunting it, I don't know how that's not considered cheating though for a DQ. Online I'm sure that's completely standard for a lot of pros doing it while playing even though that is cheating.

The commentators have almost no impact on how enjoyable a poker broadcast is for me. I don’t need Nick and Ali speaking softly into my ear every single time I watch poker but hey different folks, different strokes.

Could you imagine if Lon and Norm commentated the Triton events? Lolol

1 issue i have in all of this is the double standard of being annoyed tamayo won because its bad for poker and sad lena lost because it would've been good for poker

Lena is just Tamayo but the rail is in his head.

It is pretty incredible that 12+ year WSOP roommates both won the ME.

It's 100 percent going on in online games and tournaments. Probably at every single table.

How would Lena winning be good for poker? If would have zero impact.

You won’t get any argument from me and I said Lon and Norm struggled live. But at the end of the day, they would have been calling the action of a bad product. Would have been a little better but they can only do so much.

Lol it’s not a double standard

It’s something to be admired and quite different to have it in your head as opposed to running over to the rail. And as far as smarty pants go he came off as pretty gregarious. A fearsome but not unpleasant presence at the table

this dominik nitsche guy is a massive ahole. Obviously he doesn't care about anything but himself. Maybe main numbers are still okay next year but any enjoyment of the game completely dies with people like this.

LOLOL. The Mouth clearly does not get it.

Unless that is some next level troll.

The only justification anyone could come up with for why the laptop stuff on the rail should happen is "it was allowed"

Simple solution, don't allow it.

I guess you'll still have Pads relaying his super computer sims to someones ear piece but at least it wont be blatantly out in the open

At least with the earpiece method, the rail would still have to convey that information to the player.

As it was, Tamayo just had to waltz over to the rail and with a single glance gets to see a full ICM adjusted heads up solve.

They were obviously not looking over the default GTOwizard chipev ranges.

What happens in a NASCAR race when after they check the winners car/engine and they find something was not according to rules, they are DQed.

Same in Golf when they check the winner's scorecard and see he filled out a hole wrong.

This rule was known over a month before the Main Event started.

This is a great point. Discussing numbers is significantly harder to internalize and grasp vs looking at numbers. Thats why we metricize everything

Seriously. This should absolutely not be allowed. Off table study is fine. Studying or running sims while actively engaged in a game (between hands or on break) is not fine. Players should not even be able to review footage of their opponents in an ongoing tournament (during the same day).
