1 issue i have in all of this is the double standard of being annoyed tamayo won because its bad for poker and sad lena lost because it would've been good for poker

Lena is just Tamayo but the rail is in his head.

If its in his head he's just that good at poker.. while Tamayo is basically a cheater using RTA. Will never happen ofc with the WSOP but if this were an online site they would have no issue withholding his entire payout if someone posted crystal clear proof of ghosting and RTA between hands.

by coordi k

The only justification anyone could come up with for why the laptop stuff on the rail should happen is "it was allowed"

Simple solution, don't allow it.

I guess you'll still have Pads relaying his super computer sims to someones ear piece but at least it wont be blatantly out in the open

If getting RTA/solver assistance were more overtly banned, then using the earpiece method would be very egregious cheating and being found out (people on your rail would be watching the 'enemy rail' closely) would have pretty serious consequences.

Lon McEachern & Norman Chad should be in the Poker Hall of Fame.

The WSOP Main Event would not be the same without them.

What happens in a NASCAR race when after they check the winners car/engine and they find something was not according to rules, they are DQed.

Same in Golf when they check the winner's scorecard and see he filled out a hole wrong.

This rule was known over a month before the Main Event started.

Might have already gotten money but would be fun to wake up to a newsflash on a DQ and 10M being spread to everyone else

did any commentators, players, or staff comment about the rta while it happened live?

It's not in the tda rules(didn't check wsop) in black and white, but imo if you are in the tournament area you should be "at your chair" or in the process of leaving/entering the tournament area.

You aren't allowed to loiter in the tournament area. I've seen it enforced multiple times.

"RTA" after hands are over is not "real-time", therefore not RTA at all.

It's not new for players to get help at the FT. Just off the top of my head, I know Tony Miles had Shaun Deeb on his rail for the HU against John Cynn. The impression that I got is that he had employed Deeb to help him with tells, strategy, lines, etc. Jeff Shulman hired Hellmuth as his coach in the run-up to the 2009 FT. We can probably all remember Jamie Gold talking to Johnny Chan on the rail between hands in 2006.

I think it's been customary for people to seek help in these positions. This is just the most blatant example since they had the laptop out.

this was my thinking this morning

Griff probably has a winnable lawsuit if he desired to go that route

As it was, Tamayo just had to waltz over to the rail and with a single glance gets to see a full ICM adjusted heads up solve.
They were obviously not looking over the default GTOwizard chipev ranges.

There is no ICM heads-up, you dingus.

Getting stack size adjusted solves for specific tourney HU with ante ranges is as egregious. They also as per Nietsche's twitter posts made node locked GTO ranges against the ranges Griff seemed to be playing as per his hand histories. Again, would be clear cheating at any online site and should be reason for winnings being frozen and distributed to the non cheaters.

I didn't watch any of this final table, but I don't understand how a player has time to go to their rail to look up solves in between hands when head-up. Shouldn't you have a new hand within like 20 seconds of folding the last one?

Why not everyone at the final table then?

DQ him down to the $1M final table payout, no title, get the money back from him (lol) and chop it up with the other players at the table.

Take away Joe's title and picture off the wall for helping him cheat.

This probably pisses me off more than anything. As a rec who started a year before the Moneymaker boom (and got more excited after that) and played online all the time successfully until Black Friday, the Tamayo win has finally gotten me to take the ME off my bucket list. Not that anyone cares, but watching the heads up just was disgusting. I have never actually disliked a ME winner before. And since he was staked, it probably wasn't life changing money for him compared to Griff. I also am willing to bet that with all that pressure, Griff didn't even realize what these scumbags were doing. Even if it was legal, it is a bad look. So disappointing.

That’s disgusting. Imo he should be disqualified and forced to give the money back. How is that not cheating?

absolutely

class action as it were

Stack size

Sequester the final table. No rail. Getting help from someone during playing time is disgusting.

Yeah, that tweet pisses me off far more than it should. Even he was humble and “I’m just trying to help my friend…” I’d still be annoyed. But his dicketry is infuriating.

I don’t mind Lon and Norm. Im not watching the ME for strategy insight, it’s just entertainment. Does it really ruin your experience when Lon says “so and so hits his 4”?

Ruin? No. But if I was watching an NBA game, saw Steph Curry drain a three, then heard an announcer say, "Slam dunk for Curry!" then yes, I would think less of the broadcast.

And sure, that's not a fair equivalent, either. It's just an illustration of an announcer continually showing himself to be incompetent when it comes to calling live play-by-play. Bear in mind, I consider myself to be someone who really likes Lon McEachern as an announcer overall.

It reminds me of something Thomas Boswell wrote years ago: "The best NFL announcer ever was Howard Coswell. The worst MLB announcer ever was Howard Cosell." Whether or not someone agrees with Boswell's statement is irrelevant: I offer it to reinforce that a person can be a GOAT at one thing and out of his/her element in another. Lon might be one of the best, if not the best, at providing V.O. over packaged material.

Finally, let's not pretend that that one call was an honest mistake, something we all do. Obviously, I've been in my industry to know that those happen all of the time. I've heard seasoned baseball announcers talk about a possible sacrifice despite two outs, or veteran football (handegg) announcers mention the punt crew despite a penalty that repeats third down. (And yes, we busted the balls of both each time, but we didn't exactly call for their dismissal.)

No, McEachern repeatedly gets very basic calls wrong – arguably the equivalent of what I describe there.

As for Norm, you mention that it's only entertainment, and because of that, I agree... I still like him on there. I routine laugh at some of his shtick. But Lon isn't there to entertain, he's there to call the action. It's why one person is referred to as "play-by-play" while the other is "color." For me, Norm still ads color. But Lon routinely shows that he doesn't know what he's looking at, at least not in real time.

And yet, despite all of that...

I wholeheartedly would enjoy seeing this. A person can be a critic without being a hater.

I'm not sure where this puts me, but I'm among those who agree with what Dominik Tweeted, yet still thought it was kind of dickish. The funny thing is he later gave a little insight (although not clarification) about what he was entering. And yet he was still going out of his way to antagonize people while explaining what appears to be a very non-nefarious reason for having a laptop.

Twitter is kind of goofy in that way, at least in the way people like to express themselves on it. At some point, some scientist will come up with a cure for a major disease, and yet will opt to come across as unlikable as possible in doing so. (I can see it now: "None of you are smart enough to understand what I just accomplished, but the pain and suffering of ALS will be over by September because of something only I am smart enough to do. So tell your spouse, who we know you met during a drunken night on Tinder, that your butt-ugly 12-year-old accident of a daughter that her disease is about to be cured!")

Dominik Nitsche is looking like a real POS by the day huh

If someone is going to be a dick, then be funny. Dick nerds are horrible because they’re pretty much never funny lol
