2024 World Series of Poker May 28th to July 17th ***No Spoilers***
The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2.
Here it is, was said before every tournament except the first couple.
At this point the only ME winner that will move the needle is a woman, preferably a Caitlan Clark type, or else someone like Jennifer Shahade who has an interesting backstory and lots of experience dealing with the media. And I suppose Hellmuth, Chan, Ivey, DN, and maybe Cunningham would get mainstream run. Absolutely no one outside of online degens knows or cares who Lena is.
Moon wouldÂ’ve been a wonderful champion.
Raymer did a good job as champ, and has maintained a presence & persona as somebody mentioned, and Hachem did too.
The Moneymaker Effect is a bit overrated but he was the perfect guy, and the way the tournament unfolded couldnÂ’t have been scripted. We all watched those 4am repeats on ESPN8 for the next few years. And Lon & Norm did a good job while it lasted. Familiar voices for the folks at home. Nobody wants to hear about equilibrium ranges.
What did Huck or Scotty do other than be preexisting big names before the boom hit?
Someone who played in the main should just file a complaint with gaming
Ruin? No. But if I was watching an NBA game, saw Steph Curry drain a three, then heard an announcer say, "Slam dunk for Curry!" then yes, I would think less of the broadcast.
And sure, that's not a fair equivalent, either. It's just an illustration of an announcer continually showing himself to be incompetent when it comes to calling live play-by-play. Bear in mind, I consider myself to be someone who really likes Lon McEachern as an announcer overall.
It reminds me of something Thomas Boswell wr
This is such a bad faith argument when Ali missed a ton of stuff too

In addition to the obvious rule breaking as clearly stated above, there’s also the whole “one player per hand” rule which seems to be at issue as well. The Final Table has obviously become a “Team Event”.
I guess so long as CBS & PokerGo pay their respective TV rights contracts, Jack Effel is fine with an anything goes policy at the Final Table, established rules be damned.
I wish someone would report/sue Tamayo for breach of the rules. Probaby not an easy enough case to get a lawyer to do it pro bono/for a portion of winnings only though so unlikely to happen.
All these laptop-sim-guys should just be banned from everything poker: every site, every live stop.
If they do this at the ME, imagine what they do online?
Live poker is supposed to free of all this technology. That’s what separates it from online poker and keeps it ‘pure’.
This needs to be nipped in the bud straight away.
So do we know that sims were being run on the rail, or instead was the team using pre-flop charts for Tamayo's stack size and position? I don't see anything explicitly banning the latter described in James Chen's tweet, and in my own live mtt play have seen players checking pre-flop charts on their phones in between hands at least a few times. Without knowing whether sims were being run, this may not break the rule banning electronic devices at the table by a player dealt a live hand. Just asking for clarity.

Well, 10 years or so ago, a guy was trying to use printed out charts at the feature table. He was told it wasn’t allowed then. I don’t see why it would be ok now.

And after the announcement wsop made this summer these players should be immediately disqualified from the tournament when caught doing this.

i was thinking same thing
if they are so openly blatant on live stream to do this, imagine what they do online, a whole group of em playing one hand
Also while are focus is all on Tomaya and his team, a lot of this must fall on the WSOP floor people/directors etc how they let they go on on live stream is madness.
During this thread a question was asked what would cause the biggest new poker boom, a woman winning, a complete rec winning etc
i believe this is the worst thing that could hurt the next poker boom, i think the only saving grace was that it wasnt free to air! if this was free to air on ESPN etc then more non poker people would have had access to watch it live....
I’m very confused by the reaction ITT. The modern poker player is about self interest above all else and a mindset of ‘if it isn’t explicitly forbidden that means it’s allowed.’ You can make the argument about ‘ecosystem’ and all that other bullshit but the reality is if even one person is legally exploiting edges then you’d be a sucker to not do the same. You don’t like the rules to allow this? Find a way to get the rules changed then. The guy is playing for $10 million, is in a HU match for $4 million (btw at the very least we know there wasn’t a behind the scenes chop and punt like we’ve seen the last couple years) and isn’t breaking any rules, it’s beyond hypocritical to chastise him for exploring edges within the bounds of what’s allowed
Is it a bad look? Absolutely. But the idea that you need to contort yourself as an ‘ambassador’ is tired antiquated nonsense. Get that money. He didn’t cheat based on the rules that existed. Wsop is the one that failed by enabling this
Great.🙄
We didnt even get to see her final table outfit choices, a choice that no one has made for 29 years.
And now we know Kristen Foxen wouldve won if she wasnt cheated.
😡 😡

Policies on pre-flop charts vary by casino, and there's nothing in the rules banning in-hand electronic assistance announced by Caesars this year to confirm they ban it being used between hands in the Main Event. At my local casino, so long as a player does not have a live hand they are allowed electronic device access. Beyond that, I'm still asking whether anyone has posted a smoking gun verifying that simulations rather than pre-flop charts were being used by Tamayo's rail. This is a long thread, and I very well might have missed it being posted earlier.

I think a lot of people are sick of poker players poisoning the game.the only silver lining to this is that it was so blatant I'm pretty sure wsop does something about it going forward.
Make no mistake- the people doing this are disgusting vermin who absolutely cheat online using RTA,colluding etc.
If for example you want to call me a sucker for not cheating online then I'll be a sucker.
I've always been super ethical when I play. For example telling someone if I see their cards, telling the table if I see a burn card, telling someone if they put too much money in the pot against me by mistake e when calling a bet.
I can remember in the glory days of online poker having regs get my aim screen name and then probably 10-20 times it turns out they wanted to collude with me. I could have made a lot of money doing this but declined every time and every time reported them to the site . Some sites did something about it, some (bodog lmao) did nothing. We both know what Joe Mckeechen and his buddies would have done. Maybe that does make me a sucker.
You're painting it as your only options are be a poker ambassador or be a cheater and do whatever you want to get an edge. Those aren't the only 2 options. Guys like these cheating nerds are never going to be ambassadors but they don't have to be scumbags.
Oh and he actually did cheat based on rules wsop stated at the beginning of this wsop.
A most of us bitching about it at bare minimum want that enforced going forward.
Don't think we need our pitchforks out calling for DQ, but agree things need to change. In the same shot of Dom and Joe consulting Tamayo on laptop, you have PokerGo running an ad for GTOW as the "official strategy sponsor."
PokerGo seems to be a common problem. Charging for subpar production, terrible live commentary (Lon, Norm, Remko, Donnie), audio issues, visual issues, lighting issues, logistical issues. Who's captaining the ship?
Kristen Foxens tournament life was sacrificed on the altar of monker solver just like jesus was sacrificed on the cross.
Im going to write a letter about this to president Harris.
If they’re cheating online then they’re scumbags. That’s not arguable
How Tamayo won the main is completely distasteful bullshit but when you’re playing for lifechanging money and (I think I read) one of your backers is the guy on the laptop I can’t sit here saying anything other than ‘well griff got jobbed but technically nothing happened that was illegal’
And to your earlier point, if Tamayo actually pulled **** that was illegal, why wasn’t that enforced? What’s griff’s recourse? The closest thing I saw to this being illegal was a generous interpretation of some bylaw
Unless someone can point me to where Tamayo explicitly broke the rules then I fault WSOP 100% for allowing this and Tamayo 0% for exploiting this. And if someone can point me to where Tamayo explicitly broke the rules then I fault wsop 100% for allowing this and Tamayo 100% for cheating
