2024 World Series of Poker May 28th to July 17th ***No Spoilers***
The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2.
Great, but they can't use RTA like that in this case. Unless you think they can memorize how exactly to play every possible hand in a minute. All they're able to get in that amount of time is basic preflop stuff.
They're way closer to RTA online cheaters than someone hitting a golf ball or hitting a baseball.
Just because the severity of enforcement is at the discretion of the floor doesn’t mean it’s not against the rules…
Look nvg chat is a lot harder than pokergo chat. Im just happy someone read what I wrote. If you watch Doug Polks video or read the 2024 wsop official rules, its not in there. I read the official rules and think it is a short and flawed document in a number of ways for an event with so much money on the line. Especially in regards to the rules of the games. The game rules are written like something I would write in nvg.

So when some announcer says at the start to please not do something and you might get in trouble possibly then its at the players risk.
Nobody on the rail can have a phone/iPad/computer seems like a pretty simple solution but what do I know
Let them have them but charge an exorbitant fee. That way you can make it painful enough it does not happen.
Consider. If you ban them what happens if you find a phone? So you kick that person out. So what, the advatage was worth the risk. DQ the player? That just begs a law suit. How do you prove player was in on it. Just like if a rail violates OPTAH you can’t really penalize the player for something the rail did.
And since you can’t make it illegal to possess a phone, you can’t have prison time as a threat. Thus you allow them but only at a super high fee, so they can only do it if player is in on it and helping pay.
In this case, Tomayo was playing for $4mil. So you charge a mil so he has to expect a mil of EV to agree.

What a shame!
The biggest Poker Tournament in the world, million people are watching and we got someone (Tamayo) who was obv. got help from the rail and (cheating?!) and nothing happen..
1. If it was against the rule and imo it was, he should be disqualified, no matter what and without any question.
2. If it's not sure, because no one can prove what was really going at Nitzsche's Laptop and what kind of sims/RTA he was using and how this really helps Tamayo's game, there should be at least a official statement or a investigation..there is 10 M in the line and no one cares or take responsiblity, WTF??
3. A clear statement and rules with reference to using/not using sims/RTA should be made for the next year.
Apologies if I missed it but has Griff weighed in on any of this anywhere?

Thankfully I’d say maybe 50K people watched that
Oddly, the worst of bad faith arguments is the "what about," but fine. And in fairness, I do remember Ali getting one wrong during the final day before the FT, and I want to say Nick busted his balls about it. If you can show me that Ali misses calls as frequently as Lon, then I'll grant your premise and lump Ali in with Lon among announcers who have to go.
Until then, I'll counter with this: unlike Lon, Ali and Nick both bring a helluva lot more to the table than Lon and Norm.

Does the official WSOP ruleset have leeway for house rules? Because if it’s a house rule that is known I’m not sure why it would matter if it’s not on their website.
At the very least even if it was not an officially sanctioned wsop rule, the rule was announced prior to tourney start and that at least shows the flaunting of the rules if not outright intention to push the boundaries of the rules.
Maybe the only argument that can sway me is that the WSOP staff was so negligent that we should consider it accepted action on the part of the loser. I still think we need to make an example of him. Maybe nicname the rule the Tamayo rule…

depends on what you are bringing.
Schulman seemed stoned out of his ****ing gills for most of the main event and really didn't bring anything because Ali would prod him with schtick or trying to call sometthing a punt or a hero call and nick would just not even care
Ali leaned into schtick all main event
Donnie and Remko just outright suck
Maria is somehow worse than both of them combined
Lon brought an air of professionalism and class that keeps that sports atmosphere alive from the boom. He missed calls for sure but so did everyone and I wouldn't be shocked if shoddy production played a part but so did everyone else. Heck shows like HCL have about a dozen misreads an episode and they have like zero pressure to perform
and Norm when he doesn't have to deal with Maria is just world class banter and of the entire group is the 2nd best player behind Schulman
Not outraged but there’s definitely widespread opinion that analytics and being overly “nerdy” about every aspect of sports to seek minute edges has ruined a lot of the enjoyment and entertainment factor.
Basketball with too many 3 pointers, baseball with the “launch angle” batting ideas, soccer becoming too micromanaged and tactical which chokes out the artistry in the game. Probably other examples in other sports to
FWIW, that one isn't new, it's just more widely accepted. Ted Williams was trumpeting the notion that an upswing was better than a level swing more than a half-century ago (and probably longer – 1971 was simply when he put it in writing). He also claimed that power comes from rotation around the core rather than the back-to-front weight shift that remained common into the 1980s.
In fact, I'd argue much of sports analytics doesn't open up new revelations in the game so much as they tend to prove (or disprove) long-held notions. Williams is always my primary example of this, as he taught hitters to swing upwards and look to make hard contact – as opposed to the more pervasive "level swing" and "just meet the ball" ideas – decades before launch angle and exit velo became standard terms.
Okay, sorry for the derail. You brought up a couple of sports analogs (and I agree with others that they falter because of the physical execution part of sports). When I saw baseball in there, I couldn't help but chime in. 😀
Doug Polk actually makes some interesting points in that video: there are already rules in place – both by the WSOP and evidently, the NGC. I remain pretty meh about Tamayo and Co. using that laptop, as I can see both sides of the argument and don't really care which way it ends up going. But it sounds like the WSOP staff had enough ground to stand on to ask Dominik to put away the MacBook.
I now wonder if anyone brought it up at the time (and not just the Twitterverse and the PG chat). Perhaps this is a quirk of having the lone rec at the FT end up going heads up: he's the least likely to have his own team doing the same, and the least likely to have people on his rail who are well-versed in the TDA Rulebook.
that video was gold.
"Whhaattt 100% on the button you cant be serious"" hahahahahahha
pretty much my whole thoughts on the situation.
I mean making and enforcing the rules seem quite hard but i think it needs to be set in place for next year.

You keep saying this, so show your work a little. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying it hasn't been my experience that Donnie, Ali or Tuchman make nearly as many announcing errors as Lon does. From my seat, you might as well be saying "I hate James Hartigan in the EPT booth... he keeps spewing Scientologist propaganda in between hands!" While it's certainly possible, it hasn't been my observation.
Meanwhile, the number of comments about Lon in this annual thread, admittedly tainted by availability bias, supports my notion.
You also make a good point on the production. Perhaps Lon (and apparently everyone else) miss calls some of the action because they're getting fed incorrect info on their monitors. Furthermore, I wonder if they're only getting a raw feed in their booth. So e.g. when the flop comes out, we're seeing it clear as day on our screens while the talent is having to squint at the one feed from the overhead camera.
That said, I do agree with the notion of Lon's "air of professionalism." That's almost without a doubt his strength over any poker announcer still in the game. During the boom, poker broadcasts tended to get more non-poker announcers, like Chris Rose and Matt Vasgersian. But again, the shift from edited packages to live-to-tape style coverage probably renders that type obsolete. Ali actually has those chops, and we often see it in other poker arenas, but he is also a master at code switching. When it comes to the Night Shift, he has clearly opted for the "Aliwood" vibe that people didn't see on episodes of Poker After Dark.
Are you saying Jeff Platt lacks an air of professionalism?
This whole “scandal” reminds me of the ‘99 Stanley Cup Finals when Dallas scored a goal that shouldn’t have counted but it was a triple OT series winning goal and it was too difficult to run it back. The bench was already cleared with cheering players and it could’ve gotten really ugly out there if it was called properly. Speaking of Dominiks… Poor Hasek should have 3 rings….
That said, they should run this one back. I don’t know how far, but if the WSOP wants some good publicity and worldwide news coverage, this is it! I don’t really give a **** WHO is considered “good for poker” but I do think that it’s not nearly as important as WHAT is bad for it. And this is freaking bad. What they did is against the rules. Period. It was stated repeatedly. If their excuse is “it not clearly stated in the written rules” they can eat a dick. It was wrong, they knew it was wrong and they should strip the title, the money and ban those involved.

100 percent i think its a raw feed issue.
At the end of the day though if ali and nick are going to get 9 out of 100 hands read incorrectly in some way and lon and norm are going to get 25 out of 100 im going to take the extra 16 mistakes for the significantly improved atmosphere.
Maria is also a menace because she brings out the worst in booths. She does the same in bringing out the worst in Stapes during EPT's (and if you want thoughts on that ideal booth James and nick walsh are top shelf and Hartigan really deserves consideration for the Hall of Fame himself)

This will hopefully show everyone how stupid 2card poker really is. Any insecure nitty child can cheat his way to win it, obviously.
May the Main Event be played as PLO, and there wont be any charts being pulled up in advance, while any semi-decent recreational who isnt a tight nit can actually win it.

That really is the argument.
If wsop wanted to be nice when it first happened Mckeenan and Nitche (definitely spelled that wrong) should have been banned from the rail and Tomoyo should have been warned if anything like that happens again he's going to be DQed and banned from all future wsop events.
Being they let it go I don't see how they can DQ him now.
