For those that don’t embed YouTube videos, are you lazy or ignorant?

I'm mainly just shocked that places like this operate with manual shuffle. Shufflers are not a new technology, yo.

Shufflers are expensive and there have been instances of some of them modified to set decks or cheat via information they read from the cards they shuffle is my understanding.

In their defense the method for embedding YouTube videos here is needlessly difficult. You have to cut out the exact video code from the middle of the URL. I'm not sure why it wasn't coded so that you could just copy and paste the entire URL like you can everywhere else on the internet. Even the instructions for embedding videos on here are incomplete (at least the ones that I read). They tell you you need to remove the first part of the URL, but if you don't also remove the end of the URL after = the video still won't work.

Also more relevant to the thread, apparently 264,000 criminal cases in Houston have been suspended by the Houston PD due to lack of personnel. It's not just the card rooms, Houston is the wild West for criminals in general.

Not modified to set decks; that ability is specifically built into the machine along with a set of excuses about how building the machine so the owner can set the deck is not meant to encourage or facilitate cheating.

I think that's just the Deckmate 2. The Deckmate doesn't do that.

shufflers can count and they can visually monitor in real time... they can't set the deck.

This has been disproven.

this is not true, irrc they don't shuffle by mixing the cards around, they shuffle by having rng choose a deck composition and then put the cards into that configuration - this is why they know not only when there's too few or too many cards but they also know which specific cards are missing as well

the reason for this is for things like bridge tournaments where there are times when you want all tables dealing the same exact hands so you can program in master table and then just have the other tables copy it

Certainly the reason they claim is that but the ability to rig hands in card games played for money is worth more to most customers.

Deckmate shufflers are leased out, and the company might not want to lease to what is essentially an underground game. They would have to find black market units somehow.

I'll have to go back and look up where I heard it, but this is my understanding, too. They only lease to licensed casinos, while Legends is a card room, not a casino. A card room has to buy it, not lease, which sets them back somewhere in the $10 to 12K range.

Google search and 20 seconds of research...

One of those links shows 2 units available, one doesn't say, and there's 4 showing on Ebay. Legends has 23 tables so they'd need to source at least 25, preferably more, plus have someone on hand to check and maintain them. Then there's the risk that they'll wind up with hacked units which is what might have happened at the other card room. Then after all that, they are at risk of legal action from Shufflemaster.

Not saying it's impossible for Texas rooms to get ahold of shuffle machines, just that it's not going to be cheap or easy. There's a reason they're all hand shuffle.

Wrong. DM2 are designed with a mode to sort cards into the new deck order. The new deck order could be any order simply be specifying different orde in the sw

You are under the impression they "Care"...

There is NO governing body in Texas.

It is literally the Wild West when it comes to Texas card rooms.

As the fictional Irish barkeep Mr. Dooley once said, "Trust everyone, but cut the cards."

I never said anything about governing bodies. If by "they" you mean Shufflemaster, their entire business model is staying good with regulators and holding their monopoly in regulated casinos. News stories about black market units involved in scandals are bad for business. I don't know if they have taken legal action in the past but it's a real possibility.

My bad, I should have specified the Deckmate 2, not 1.

But none of those links tell me whether or not the shufflers are only leased to licensed casinos. That was the part that is what meant by "I'll have to go back and look up where I heard it," which it's why it was the introductory clause in the first sentence, not the second.

So stop with the "it took me 20 seconds of research" like you solved one of the Zodiac ciphers or something. Yeeesh.
