Funny Rounder Story

Funny Rounder Story

I remember this story about Roland DeWolfe. He was a red fulltilt pro at this time, but it was early online poker days at FullTilt, and Roland was playing at the World Series. He was seated next to Seidel at an event and they started talking. And then at one point he asks Seidel if he got into poker because of Rounders 😀 [Seidel was too polite other than to say no, he got into poker before Rounders)

I saw this video on youtube -https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3OL6bUVjV...(Seidel is always just going to be linked to Rounders, no matter how many bracelets he win

Ok I admit that is a pretty funny story tbh

i might be wrong but i think De Wolfe was a poker reporter before he got big writing for poker magazines ? i am fuzzy on that info , i know he was a reg at the gutshot cardclub.

but 100% De wolfe was joking when he asked Seidel that..

Runner runner hobgoblin is still the funniest poker line.

It's a hilarious story whether it's a joke or not

Roland DeWolfe has a pretty good sense of humor. He was in the room when I heard the story from another player, pretty sure it's true! Be great to hear more WSOP funny anectodes.

either way, confirmed funny story

I always thought Seidel got his start from watching Rounders.

Same with Johnny Chan. 😀

All kidding side, I've often wondered how many people have asked Matt Damon – at least, when he did appear at the WSOP – if he got into poker after seeing Rounders. One of those "I've bet he's never heard this one" openers that plenty of fans might use.

True story.

I once dealt at a charity poker tournament with Ben Afflack and Matt Damon. As dealers, we were told that we were literally furniture. We were told only only to speak when spoken to. We were most definitely not to start conversations with any of the "stars". Shut up and deal. Squared. OK.

So my first table every one sits down. There are a couple of minor stars (think Rick from Pawn Stars or Micheal Phelps). The last player to show up is Matt Damon. He sits down and like a boss he immediately announces that he will not respond to any Rounders nonsense.

The thing was, he said it in such a forceful way that he was probably kidding (with a smile), but with just enough assertiveness that a person could not be sure. So if you were looking to suck up to Matt Damon, you couldn't be sure if Rounders was the way to go. You probably had to find a different approach.

It threw enough of the other players off that I have to think that it was a masterclass at throwing people off of their expectations.

He was friendly and outgoing. He just knew his introduction would mess with people.

Poor Donnie got felted in that clip
