Patrik Antonius in Hall of Fame
This happened yesterday, but I didn't see anything here about it. In some ways it is good it is one a year. He and Rast really deserved it. Mostly a cash game player. Beating top players HU in the day. Apparently beating the Big Game at Bellagio, which is important to the HOF with so many regs from that game HOF voters. He hasn't played the WSOP much, but has wins in high rollers.
Supposedly, Miami John Cernato was number 2 and Isai Scheinberg number 3 in the voting. They and Arieh also belong in.
Good choice. If any, that guy really is into poker, and for decades. Dignity.
He's a true role model. Seems like a really nice guy. Cool, calm and collected.
Been doing it for over 20 years, although it did seem he had a break from the lime light for a bit, but I'm sure he was just playing private.
Top choice!
Sadly old highstakes db doesn't exist anymore, but I'm sure I remember all of his accounts combined made him the biggest winner online. Something like $20m profits?
Antonius is fine, a solid candidate who belongs. He's Matt Ryan. He's Chris Webber. Great long term record of excellence and accumulation without a really signature moment that everyone remembers. Zero bracelets and no deep runs in the main. Zero WPT wins. 1 EPT.
However, without Isai, the HOF is diminished to the level of irrelevance. Any other candidate than him is viewed unfairly because it all boils down to it should have been Isai.
I think Patrick's wife had some say in him slowing down a bit, assume they have a kid or two. It was speculated that he was backing Players, perhaps quite a few. Gotta think that Covid had a role in him staying low as well.
In a small sample on PGo (NGNF, HSP) I've thought him to be less of himself, if not a bit Nitty. However that could very well be a forced adjustment due to table dynamic and Players being less intimidated by 'big time' Pros via exposure and/or similar bankrolls.
This would've been a perfect year for a 'contributor' to get in with the onrush of online play coming back in the US.
Not sure why most years only have one, there was a double Player year so it's not just when a contributor gets in 'with' a Player .. DNegs has suggested a contributor be put in every 3-4 years should one be deemed 'worthy'. GL
PS .. Can you imagine trying to justify Todd Brunson for HOF right now? I just don't see it, never have. Obv I know very little about the workings of his full influence as far as cash games go. Can't imagine him having a JRB type role 'back in the day' but it's possible .. and he definitely doesn't have a welcoming personality to the common Player (other than I really like what he eats).
Todd Brunson was playing the Big Game at Bellagio. Hard to tell as he doesn't have much online or tournament results. He did have big connections though.
The last two choices, Antonius and Rast, really belong in. Todd Brunson probably not, but more than some other recent inductees.
Patrik was a God for a very long time. Everybody looked up to him.
Well deserved. An intense competitor with great focus. His skill in all the games is demonstrated by his longevity at the top of the live cash game.

Not trying to be a troll or a hater but what was the case for Matasow being nominated?

trying to compare poker to pro sports is silly.

Patrick Antonius $11,315,000 / 500,000 hands + FinddaGrind $5,716,000 / 145,000 hands + Luigi66369 $776,000 / ? hands = $17,800,000 over, say, 700,000 hands = $25 / hand

He estimates to have won around 30 million online

This would'v
No one has to justify Todd Brunson being in right now, just that he deserved to have gotten in back when they were taking two a year with not that many people to choose from. And if he really played in Big Game for over a decade seemed as if he deserved it, at least compared with anyone else that could have been put forward

he also says he knows that he has won online more than anyone and that he won 10M before 2007. he has no clue how much he's won live.

Yeah, playing the Big Game is important for the HOF, because it is the highest stakes, and many member of the HOF, who vote on it, play it. He doesn't have much WSOP and tournament result, which is what people see. Also, a lot people in the HOF were friends with his father, which should help.

He was also part of the Corporation against Andy Beal, he himself won a big chunk of the profits 13.5M. In any comprehensive history book of poker, this challenge is detailed.
Thus given who he was probably up against at time that was over age 40, not aware who would have a stronger claim.
Certainly the newest member going forward should have a stronger resume than many of those already in. It should be obvious that Rast, Seiver etc >>>>>>> player than someone like Tom McEvoy, so hopefully that doesn’t become an annual rant

Matt Ryan is a ludicrous comparison for the biggest winner in the history of online poker
MRyan? I don't think so .. not as much as he could be Dan Marino or Dan Fouts.
While he's pretty much a PIA and a HOF Tilter, Mike the Mouth, IMO, could've had a very impressive WSOP career. But for whatever reason (drugs? tilt factor?) he just couldn't come thru in key spots the way the PHell has done. Don't overlook the fact that PHell keeps Mike in his circle .. he knows Poker. GL
I call BS on the HOF until I see true icons of the game inducted: Bobby Hoff, Sklansky, Malmuth, Caro

that was on Fulltilt alone over 4 accounts. he is well above 30. Bro was top dog HU NLHE at 200/400 prima before FTP existed, and before he played NLHE he was a top player at the limit games over at william hill / cryptologic and biggest ones there was £300/600. add in tourniewinnings, all those years on HSP etc... bro certainly did well for himself 😀
Also, the fact he stayed relevant for so long is a feat in itself, he was making the top15lists most money made a year at stars up to like 2017, and bro started playing online like 2003. There is not alot of people that have been around for as long and been as solid as he have in the onlineworld, being relevant live is mostly about games, that said. he been a absolute destroyer of worlds live too as we all know. Great pick for HOF.
And PA was playing and apparently beating the 2K/4K to 5K/10K mixed game during the Series, which probably impressed the HOF voters, many of whom played it. Rast won the PPC 3 times, which is huge, and impresses old school mixed game HOF voters.
As to the suggestions, Hoff probably should be in, but has little chance with one per year, and so many turning 40. Sklansky and Caro for their books and they both were good mid to high stakes players. Malmuth for these forums and the publisher, both of which used to be huge. None of those have been nominated, at least recently. Scheinberg apparently came in 3rd in the voting this year. I don't think he has much of a chance with one per year, but definitely deserves it for PokerStars.
And he did it all without blinking.
