GG poker now owns WSOP, thats wild

Huge News.

All Hail GG Poker & Chyna

Rip JokerStars 2001-2024.

Still worrying, but FWIW:

As a part of this transaction, Caesars has secured the right from NSUS to continue hosting the WSOP’s flagship live tournament series at its Las Vegas casinos for the next 20 years. In addition, brick-and-mortar poker rooms currently operated by Caesars will continue to feature WSOP branding, and Caesars destinations will continue to enjoy preferential rights to host live WSOP Circuit (WSOP-C) events going forward.

So, we can expect higher rake online and maybe a better product on PokerGO going forward I guess.

"NSUS - pronounced 'Answers'.... "

wat

first thing they should do is change that horrible software and switch to gg software for the online site

by the sounds of things it looks like Caesars will be running it in Vegas for the next 20 years. Sadly they're keeping that dog **** software.

ALL HAIL KING NEGREANU

LONG MAY HE REIGN

Sort of a sale and leaseback type deal?

That’s wild.

Seems like Caesar’s got the better end of this deal. They still get to sell hotel rooms, soak up all the degens extra gambling moneys in their casinos, and continue to sell outrageously priced food.

GG gets the rake and….? I guess they get to plaster GG stuff everywhere for free and can host exclusive WSOP events online but I can’t think of anything else.

Am I missing something or is this nowhere near worth $500,000,000 to GG? I mean, maybe with people fleeing GG due to cheating scandals daily, this is a way they might attract new people?

Then again, maybe GG is optimistic about the future of online poker in the US and think they’ll be able to capitalize on that if it happens in the next 20 years.

What a perfect opportunity to #FireJackEffel.

Curious what this means for players on WSOP online and getting reward points sent to Caesars' rewards - Will that continue ? Friend of mine working on Diamond status by playing Cash on WSOP ? Also, we really need the GG Poker software ASAP and hopefully we can get some answers on that from some of the "2+2 In the know Experts" out there.

TIA

Seems like the rake on all the WSOP events will be going up next year.

"The World Series of Poker operates real-money online poker in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. According to the release, Caesars Digital will receive a license from NSUS to continue operating in these states.

However, it also states that they will be restricted from poker operations "for the foreseeable future", presumably due to the sale.

This sale is subject to customary regulatory approvals and other closing conditions and is expected to close prior to the end of 2024."

What exactly does this mean. Online poker is paused or what?

WSOP Online events needs to be playable by people in Canada.

Sadly don't think this will change gambling laws.

GGooker doesn’t own any properties so they were always going to have to partner with a brick and mortar casino. I think it makes sense to stick with Caesars since it will probably be the smoothest transition with basically no logistic changes.

Sitting back, plastering your brand everywhere, all while collecting rake sounds like a great deal.

They get the space, that’s it. The logistics and cost of setting up, operating, and taking down now falls on GG. Not to mention the marketing. They’re hardly going to be “sitting back.” The cost of rake will help pay this and they’ll have a positive annual return but I highly doubt it’ll be anywhere near enough to recoup $500,000,000 in 20 years.

And you think plastering your brand everywhere for $500,000,000 when your flagship event is held in a country where online poker is mostly illegal is a “great deal?”

The way I understand it, operations in those 4 states will continue uninterrupted and there will be no further expansion for probably a year or 2, at that time it should be much more aggressive expansion than we have seen.

Or a move away from selling the rights like it's 2004 and instead building their own media infrastructure online.

Playing in NJ online is ok.. Was NJ and NV and then like 35 years later they got Michigan on there. Maybe in 15 years they can figure out how to plug in PA, probably a bad router. But now GG buys? Well, well. I heard they have a decent amount of players. I like Chinese food... Chairman Mao? Nice fellow if you ask me. Forget all these routers and such. Delete the Wsop program, add us to the GG thing you got going. Asap, thx.

This was my first thought as well. Many people saying it's a good thing on twitter but they like rake and they just paid 500 million for it. Lot of wait and see on this cause there's a lot of different ways they could go about all sorts of things.

seems like they paid too much if you ask me...but thats just like my opinion man.

they got 5 years though to pay the other half...prepare for a rake increase at GG yet again

Sick, satellites for every WSOP live event online? Yes please.
