RIP Archie Karas

I think most everyone knows his legendary run but does anyone else have any personal stories or interactions with him that they can share? RIP

Aside from angle shooting or blatant cheating I don't know if controlled rolling is possible if the croupiers are strict about the dice hitting the spiked wall on every throw.

Long ago, maybe during or shortly after Archies run, I was playing craps at Binion's on Fremont and was setting the dice and trying to toss a soft roll. The whiskey was strong in my system and when the pit boss (looked just like Danny Devito) told me '...if the dice don't hit the back wall I'm going to take them away from you...' to which I replied in a drunken display of bravado '...you're not man enough to take these dice away from me...'

He immediately picked up the phone and even as inebriated as I was something told me I was in trouble. The security guard who got in my face and escorted me out reminded me of NFL defensive back Ray Lewis and I was concerned about the possible a$$ beating that could be coming my way. Benny was still in charge, and he was not concerned about the consequences of assaulting problem customers.

I know he wasn't as that would be a future bankroll whenever the inevitable "cold streak" happened but a relative could have stepped up and forced him to put something aside so he wouldn't have to scam x years down the line.

The only way to force guys like Archie & Stu do anything financially prudent is to get them under a Britney style conservatorship. You donÂ’t think StuÂ’s wife tried to step up?

And they’d just borrow against what was set aside anyway. You’d have to lock ‘em up and take their phones. The concept was discussed in Biggest Game In Town about an old degenerate in the 70s who had one final big score, refused to consider getting an annuity, and died broke & happy.

Try pulling a drunk girlfriend off a blackjack table.

I have known people who say they can beat craps. Of course I have seen those same people broke when craps beat them.

I don't believe anyone can beat a legit, casino craps game.

I’ve known multiple people who went on life-changing craps runs. Half wound up right back where they started and laughed about it. The other half wound up in far worse shape than when they started and no one was laughing.

Dang jcorb, you got lucky indeed. Nit: Ray Lewis was a linebacker, but he also got away with killing two people upclose with a knife.

… Nit: Ray Lewis was a linebacker, but he also got away with killing two people upclose with a knife.

Also since Benny was in charge, he died in 1989, jcorb must be remembering a Ray Lewis from high school since he was high school freshman when Benny died.

There is also the fact that regardless of size, at least 2 and probable 3+, but never 1alone, security would have showed up.

Me thinks the whiskey was really flowing such that we have some misremembering
