****OFFICIAL NVG MODERATION DISCUSSION THREAD****
This has been requested in the past, and now it's here! As regular NVG users know, questions about moderator actions are usually told to PM the mod or post in ATF. Now, there's a third option - this thread. You can still PM the mod or start an ATF thread if you don't like the response/decision you received.
This thread is not for mod bashing, trolling, flaming, or general idiocy. But if you have a question about why X disappeared, or some other mod issue/action, fire away.

Edit/MH: A post of note, for consideration by all:
... For a variety of reasons NVG mods have been notoriously hesitant to perma-ban posters. I think there have been only a handful of cases in the past six years. And in each case I would say that the poster essentially banned himself by flagrantly posting in direct violation of recent mod messaging warning that a perma-ban would result.
But rest assured that NVG mods are committed to trying to maintain an enjoyable, informative, entertaining, and positive forum. Mods are part of and reflective of
What's even funnier is there isn't a single post report by Mr. Slugant, so I guess not only does he expect us to be sitting here hitting refresh 24/7, we also have to do that for every single sub-forum there is. I'm going to need a raise.
Ah, the thankless job of the volunteer forum moderator...I feel your pain.
Get it together, Greens.
Ok haha, actually wasnt meant as an attack on the mods, but I see how it looks that way
I was expecting there to be a sort of algorithm that didnt allow a brand new account to make 100 threads with the basically the same title in 1 forum. But what do I know? Very little because I honestly cant even find the report button
Once again, no attack on the mods but point taken

There’s a triangle exclamation point point in upper right hand corner. But a non sleeping mod will probably get that at around the same they see it in NVG. It’s sort of a high traffic area
But yeah there are common sense measures that would prevent that to begin with
Get your act together, 2+2
I don’t have the report button on my iPhone. I feel like I’ve mentioned this before but nothing changes. I realize this is a software issue and not a mod issue but given how many people use iPhones, I’m sure there are a lot of people experiencing the same issue. Can a mod bring this up to the ownership’s attention? Having people better capable of reporting posts would make the mod’s job easier, I would think.

Posting on forums on a phone? God that sounds horrible.
I know this isn’t a mod issue but it seems there are some software vulnerabilities that someone is exploiting to continuously make spam threads. Any indication that may be patched soon?

It's not really a software vulnerability. Unfortunately there's just nothing in the software/settings that prevents spam bots from signing up and creating massive amounts of threads.
Good for you.
If someone claims he can "probably" do it, I'm not hiring him
Easily is the key word, but it could be done
I think are quite obvious things that could be done so instead of “probably” we could insert “almost certainly”
But maybe I would have been done on the arm if the crowd was a bit nicer. Always too negative!
I don't think that's a conversation for the NVG moderation thread.
If you're interested in offering your services to the owners of the platform, send them a PM or email.

I’m no longer offering my services
But I’d still suggest making the easy fix
This would help ease the burden of those wearing the Green
Spammers are back, but don’t put out the bat signal for me
When exactly did the spam attacks start?
Sucks can’t report more than one post every 40 seconds. It makes reporting and taking the time to report take a while and likely give up etc.
Surely there is a forum setting to prevent new users from creating topics until some certain criteria is met - sure, they probably just post in existing threads instead but at least you can still see existing threads on the first page rather than an entire page of spam

There definitely is. At the MMA forum where I admin, we have a 5-post then one-day delay until a new poster can start a new thread. Sure, they can still spam post, but it makes it much easier to catch before they start creating a bunch of new threads/topics, which is much more disruptive than a few posts that generally get reported and deleted.
Yeah, I'm just theorising here based on what I know from moderating much larger forums than 2+2 and what typical software should be able to handle. The cleverest thing I saw elsewhere was Newbie Tuesday, where you can register an account at any time, but only make your first post on a Tuesday, which makes it easier to keep things clean as you can just have mods pay more attention on one day of the week

Thanks for reporting posts. Doing one report per forum is perfectly fine, we nuke the threads from the forum anyway not from the post report.

Obviously also depends on the target audience of the forum but I think on average less than 50% of newly created accounts return if they're not allowed to post immediately.
Would obviously help tremendously if new accounts were limited to maybe 1-2 threads per day over the first 30 days or something like that.
I see that the Limon and Grimtard AMA threads have been moved to a new AMA forum. Will that be listed in the "2+2 Forums" column at the left?
