Tom Dwan - the missing man

Tom Dwan - the missing man

How convenient is it that he just falls off the face of the earth after issuing and bailing half way through a 50k hand challenge when he goes down over a million dollars?

He come out a year or so ago and said that he has this "big" problem with FTP that he would address once he had a decent nights sleep, what ever happened here?

He agreed to pay penalties on a monthly basis for not playing an agreed amount of hands with jungle, did cates ever receive any of the penalty money? I think it's about time the community got some answers. There was a lot of money placed on the outcome of the match which never got resolved, as you can imagine anyone who took jungle's side must be pretty aggrieved.

Ike and Justin bonomo was both judges along with Ivey being escrow, from what I remember Ivey wanted nothing to do with any of the decision making after dwan went AWOL which lead to phil sending jungle his 500k back. What's the point of having judges in any bet if they can't actually enforce any rulings?

If anyone else had bailed on a bet of this size when he should have escrowed the 1.5million it would be a much bigger deal.

To add to that he's listed to play in the 500k super high roller at the aria

Mother of God. Say spot one more time Tom, I dare you.

anyone have the link to the Tom Dwan video with the Tom Petty parody about him being in debt to the Triads or something lol? Probably the funniest thing I ever saw on here haha

Best part of the Vertucci interview after 40 minutes of rambling by Dwan.

Vertucci: Have you seen the movie “A beautiful mind”?
Veronica: Nick……

That cracked me up.

That cracked me up.

For the whole 10 minutes leading up to that part I couldn't stop laughing and then that bit put me over the edge. Its like they are speaking different languages to each other.

Can someone please explain Veronica Brill?

She spends years going after a scammer (Postle), now aligns herself for a year with a scammer (Vertucci) who interviews another scammer (Dwan).

Vick Nertucci's brain is so rotten that he doesn't understand that this interview just makes thing worse for Dwan & him.

After listening to that poker news and vetucci interview in full, im open to Dwan being ok here.

Need to get an interview in now with Peter and hara

But I kinda understand what Tom is saying and what he believes.
Whether its true or not, still waiting on

Why is he always losing his phone?

Maybe Tom doesn't give a ton of interviews and stays quiet at games because he doesn't articulate his thoughts and positions that well. It still is a "dwan owes these ppl $ and isn't paying" situation no matter what he says, so I don't think he gains a lot by airing out everyone's business.

As for the drug accusations, longterm stimulant use is not good for you unless you absolutely need it, and not many people actually need it. The most common one for people looking for an edge is Adderall which is more harmful than people realize. It's an amphetamine (a combination of amp salts), and this kicks your brain into overdrive in a manner that is not sustainable. Paranoia, appetite suppression, and insomnia are common so Tom would be the exhausted looking ghost you see.

If he's taking benzos it's the same story in reverse. It zonks you out if you don't need it for some severe mental issue and it's bad for your memory, so him not really making sense and not having a clear explanation of situations makes a lot of sense. It also suppresses your appetite, and I mention this in both cases because all the prescription pills in the world won't make your brain function properly if it isn't getting the proper nutrition.

Not everyone who uses this stuff is a drug addict though or is headed down some slippery slope, even if the slope is slippery. Tom is a ultra-wealthy guy in a world that is business at the casino and party everywhere surrounding it. It is reasonable to assume he has had full and free access to whatever substances he wants for the past 20+ years, so if he's in bad shape he's certainly taken a long time to get there.

Can you imagine being the IRS agent trying to make sense of Dwan’s taxes?

Isn't that other host's name Veronica? Why is Nick calling her Valerie?

This is my first introduction to vertucci. Despite looking like a dude I probably wouldn't want to kick it with he appeared pretty reasonable. Who or how did he scam tercet? He was straight up with Dwan and doing his best to get to the ****ing point. Jesus I couldn't make it through that incoherent rambling of nonsense.

He has an excuse for everything, even when an excuse isn't even needed. "So yea, I get it..pretty straight forward..." "but wait, no!"

Can someone please explain Veronica Brill?

She's a moderately attractive girl desperate to be in the poker scene, but no actual poker skills or interview/commenting skills

Also seems like the type of girl who would absolutely hate NV and his anti-woke own the libs bullshit. But again, lack of talent. So...

Yeah I've never seen him play poker, and I've only seen a few clips of his show. The consensus seems to be that he is an unlikeable nit who acts tough, but is actually quite sensitive. I thought he seemed nice and actually showed a lot of patience/composure with Dwan.

Totally wrong assumption.

If people can't pay or won't pay their debts, they're 100% broke.
Do you think he's paying his fines just for fun? He's paying fines, because he couldn't come up with enough money. At least he had to move down then, which is for Dwan obviously not an option, because he's a great HIGHSTAKES PLAYER, right?

It's no secret that a person like Dwan can get staked or lend money as long as he wants. Guys like him never run out of action, because everybody including you is a believer. I can only warn the scene of bad actors like him.

He should clear 100% of his debts, give an explanation to all of it and apologize to the public. That's what a real professional would do. He's just another wannabe-highstakes-clown not able to earn real money the last 12 years or so.

I’ll start by saying I’ve watched only the first 30 minutes of the Vertucci interview. Maybe it goes way more off the rails later? Based on what I’ve seen so far I’m a little surprised by the characterizations in the thread. My takeaways:

1. He’s embarrassed and he’s angry about being called out publicly.
2. That makes him very emotional, which affects his ability to tell his story in a rational way—which is probably already a problem for him because concise communication is already not his strong suit.
3. He is trying to appear to be fully open and honest about the situation, but he’s attempting to shade the truth here and there because he obviously does owe the money and has for a long time—which again is embarrassing and puts him in a highly emotional state of mind, which again makes it difficult to communicate clearly. Also, it’s hard to appear coherent when you’re trying to skirt around the truth. Things don’t fully add up so you ramble a lot and make vague and confusing allusions to things you “don’t want to get into.”
4. He definitely feels Peter owes him, both money and some kind of appreciation and respect. I’m not saying it’s true that he does. But it’s clear Durrrr is not just saying that to muddy the waters. He is genuinely angry that a guy he feels he has helped out a lot has done this. That again adds to the emotion, which contributes to the rambling.

I’m not seeing the clear and obvious signs of drug addiction that others are. I’m seeing a guy that doesn’t just recognize that his professional reputation is taking a hit…he’s genuinely pissed about it. I don’t think his rambling and emotional communication in the interview is evidence of a mind addled by drugs or deprived of sleep or nutrition. I’m seeing a guy who feels truly wronged and who is also working hard to spin the truth to make some shady behavior appear perfectly normal and fine.

Is he broke? That doesn't surprise me. He was always on the TV poker shows because he made good TV with his loose style. Playing all sorts of garbage hands is not going to work long term.

There was another thread about TJ Cloutier doing the same thing, borrowing money people would lend because he was obviously a big name player and could more than pay it back.

With all the GTO, etc., playing super loose probably doesn't work so well now at high stakes. Maybe Dwan could beat 2/5 or 5/10 or whatever.

Are you serious, that clueless and that much of a nit? When he was "always on tv poker shows" back in the day his cards didn't matter a good chunk of the time as he was levels ahead of the vast majority of his opponents

lol never seen this before haha its great and bad same time

I have rewatched old high stake poker TV series, Dwan is a star there making big plays, winning big pots but if variance wasn't in his side he would be big loser imo

He is the type of player who can't be making big folds, i think he cant even fold top pair or overpair

Lately i watched Phil Galfond youtube video where he reviews how Tom Dwan won 4,200,000$ pot, dwan calls prelop 5bet with QQ, calls flop cbet, calls turn double barrel, calls river shove and ends up winning insanely huge pot because his opponent was bluffing, i dont believe this is great read by him... most of the time he will end up losing against KK or AA

He is almost certainly broke and a gambling addict. Why would someone who is a supposed high stakes crusher be addicted to sports betting? Probably because that person got complacent, stopped studying in the lab and knows they are not playing with an edge at the poker table anymore so there is not really much of a difference between poker and craps and sports betting, its all just gambling, its all just giving that dopamine hit into his brain. Is Tom still a favorite in the extremely soft Hustler streamed games? yes, almost certainly. Is he a favorite in the 50-100k buyin high stakes tournaments at the Triton series? no, i think he is one of the huge fish in the field and everyone playing in the tournament knows it.
