Daniel Negreanu's very own containment thread. All things Danny go here
how bad must he be when a girl falls asleep while making out and snores right after?
life fish..... food arrived but didn't eat it....
o well atleast the girl grinded him on the rails of a club, almost got kicked out for grinding? Kappa
Very few people tell the king he has no clothes especially when it has no upside. You are never getting the credit or money if you improve his game but you will get all the blame when he loses.
Every poker play I know has a group of poker playing friends that discuss hands and strategies to help each other improve. Daniel is obviously friendly with loads of people that are very good at various games - at least when showing up in his vlogs a lot of very good players seem to act as if they are his friends. But if none of them are willing to point out obvious flaws like in his PLO game that has to mean one of two things:
1. Daniel is too arrogant to bother discussing hands with fellow pros
2. The people who are Daniel's "friends" arent really friends with him at all, just poker acquaintances who are happy that he brings extra EV into high roller fields.
My bet is that both 1 and 2 are true. DNegs does seem to have a lot of superficial relationships with fellow poker players.
Also lol @ Amanda in newest vlog. The fakest abs ever on full display, while claiming that her new trunk is not the result of a Brazilian butt lift. This is just like the obvious roidheads who keep claiming they are "natty" on social media. Who are they fooling? Why bother? Tons of people have work done, just admit it. Its such a bad thing for people with eating disorders and self-image issues (especially women) when people who are exposed in social media pretend that they can get such results naturally while casually eating fries and nuggets in the middle of the day.
Yesterday's blog is titled "My Best Game - PLO". Its been a year since his last vlogs so I was ready to give him some slack, maybe he has played some more PLO and actually plays it better now.
Then the very first hand history he plays JJTT terribly and his analysis is straight up bad. Is no one in his circle giving him any pointers in this game? Its quite baffling how someone who is at his level in the poker ecosystem doesnt have people to discuss hands with that would lead him to improve. Either
Yea I said it last year he's ****ing TERRIBLE at plo.
Just from knowing how to navigate tournaments he can get through a lot of players in small buy in big field events bc they're also terrible at plo but he's gonna get wrecked in anything big.
Here's what I don't get:
Negreanu showed a lot of humility in actually doing (as best I can tell) a lot of NLH homework as the game threatened to pass him by. In general, I feel like he's very capable of thinking about poker in a sophisticated way, which--when combined with his table talk, reading, and passion for the game--keeps him pretty competitive, all told (again, as best I can tell).
...so why does he seem to have an absolutely awful and uncharacteristic attitude about PLO, which year after year he shows a shocking lack of ability or humility with? It must be like 80% of the PLO hand breakdowns he puts in the vlog that would get a chorus of "fold pre" on here, but he thinks he's a crusher at it.
The guy has always had a weird, -EV fascination with low cards in PLO, and he somehow seems absurdly content to play what amount to three-card hands when he really doesn't need to.
Extra emphasis on "when he doesn't need to" when he thinks his huge edge in Dealer's Choice is to pick... PLO.
Conversely, his drive-in rationale for picking PLHE made some sense to me, and--especially in a DC tournament where players are probably feeling allergic to hold 'em--picking PLHE has all of the benefits of getting mixed game players out of their comfort zones without any of the drawbacks of Daniel Negreanu playing Pot-Limit Omaha.
It's really wild when the #1 best explanation of Negreanu's PLO antics is that it's all kayfabe to get him invited to PLO games where he actually plays good. Ultimately, I wouldn't fault him for punting a $10k Dealer's Choice as the cost of doing business for staying welcome at high-stakes PLO games, except insofar as the related vlog content makes me want to remove my only two human eyes with tweezers, one cubic millimeter at a time.
I mean if he's getting invited to soft high stakes plo games then good for him. But I think hes long past his days as an old school hustler.
It really is bizarre he thinks he's a plo crusher.
I probably know 5% of what Dnegs know on PlO and 2% of what you top guys know (I have played PLO less than 1% of 1% of 1% (8 game mix) of my lifetime hands. and his analysis the past couple years and rationale for picking plo did not make sense by some of his hand histories . thank you for confirming my suspicion that he does not know what he is really talking about in PLO
Daniel is short-stacked, but he made the final 11 of the $10K dealer's choice, along with Ivey, Robert Mizrachi, Lamb, and David Bach.

I don't envision Daniel as the type of guy playing private home games anymore. He's too rich and successful to care IMO. Not to mention he never seems to play that well at high stakes cash games.
His PLO game is what it is.
Perhaps he is trying to apply 'small ball' tactics to PLO since you do have some sort of equity in pretty much every hand. If you poke and prod enough in PLO then you can haul in some nice pots. The other aspect that he noted is that most tournament Players don't want to play large pots, which PLO pots can get large in a hurry. While this mindset works in DC tournaments, it's probably not as effective in PLO only events.
I've said for a long time as well .. Opponents don't range DNegs properly when it comes to large PF/Flop battles (at least in NL) because he is so active in single-raise pots. This is both good and bad. Good that he gets a wider range calling him down .. bad when they connect and/or suck-out in large pots.
He's stated in the past that cash games don't really drive him much anymore. He's gotten pounded playing cash/HU in the PokerGo studio, especially the NGNF episodes. I don't think he enjoys the antics or even offering his side of table-talk issues which has gotten him into some scrums before.
If not for Antonius stealing that Full House hand from him he would've had a decent HSP result.
I think he's just found a wheelhouse of income with GG and he's actually settling into a more private lifestyle, which he admits he prefers. There could be some other investments that came thru for him as well. Also if I remember correctly from long ago, most of the guests at his house parties weren't poker related. More so 'girl' or business related.
Not sure where Patti lives .. but wonder how she likes the longer drive? Christian too .. It's not too hard of a drive with nice scenery as far as I can tell. GL
I’d guess that the majority of PLO players who think they are good at PLO, are in fact not good at PLO.
I think his worst game is Limit O8. Did anyone hear him explain 2 hands he played. One was I think a2jq where he raised and bet the whole way. He bets river and gets raised prob getting 10/1 and folds. Think board ran out like J3610Q
I mean yeah he's probably beat , but is he beat 9/10x? I'm sure the other players at the table noticed him folding in an exact same spot a few hands earlier.

I don’t have much O8 experience but seems like a spot where you lose 100% of the pot 100% of the time, no?
Yeah, Daniel has been coasting on Stars/GG money for close to twenty years now... Can't see him ever playing cash unless it in his contract he has to play a couple times a year for a show.
I wonder what his Vlog costs him to produce these days... can't be cheap
He may get invited to soft highish stakes private PLO games, because he is a big name pro, and he plays loose and not that well.
He clearly has some skills with tournaments, playing donks, tournament strategy, etc., even if he doesn't play that well technically in whatever game.
He could make a living playing tournaments. The problem is whether he is beating the stakes of tournaments he is playing.
I know something about all games, but don't play much PLO. However, that JJTT hand seems played fined preflop, but not otherwise.
QQ62 he checks back xx66 because he’s scared of Q2. Then he’s a hero again on the river when op bluffs and he calls. In this case obv great play but just horribly bad against any Q.
10th in the 10k Dealer's Choice.
Ivey 11th
Negreanu Left With Chip and Chair
Limit Omaha High
Michael Martinelli raised form the cutoff and the short-stacked Daniel Negreanu defended his big blind. Negreanu then went on the check-call on the. A 6 10 flop and 5 turn, leaving himself with one T-5,000 chip.
The 5 completed the board and Negreanu checked once more. Martinelli then put his opponent all in. Negreanu gave it some thought before opting to fold and staying alive with a single chip.
No flush is on the board btw
Was he getting at least 50/1 ?
Will be interesting to see what hand he had there. Only hand I could see folding is kqj . But even then could you envision a bluff from your opponent who raised in position ? I mean.... gotta be right 2% of the time

I assume the Vlog is paid for entirely by GG, right? Their team edits the videos in Asia and their logo and graphics are all over the place. Even if he goes out of pocket, he has 800k subscribers and every video gets well over 100k views, so I would imagine he is doing pretty well.

I don't see what he could fold. There is a possible low, so he opponent could theoretically have like 8732 for the nut low and 8-high for high.
One could assume that a (large) portion of Christian's compensation comes from the legwork of the Vlog before it goes to editing. It's possible that even he has a 'grunt' staying with DNegs during the day to catch some of the footage that's not POV. It could be set up any numbers of ways. You cold also assume that the YT channel takes in over $100k per year even though Dnegs isn't really a 12 month 'poster'. He/Christian/others put efforts into how to maximize YT without the weekly activity you see from the classic Vloggers. GL

Alright so I was right!
Daniel addressed this on his most recent vlog. He was actually getting 53/1. It turns out he folded the best hand ! So instead of having 275,000 in chips he saved himself one 5,000 chip 🤣 . You can't make this stuff up! He called it his biggest poker mistake ever.
lol
I did a similar blunder in a cash game, prob consider it ever worse since it was cash. I had $3 left after a cooler and limped from the B in 1/2 NL. Couldn't have missed the Flop any more. Player bets and three calls .. I fold .. I would've gone run-run for a nice 7x pot. Don't see too many 7x pots in your poker days. GL
