Viktor Isildur1 Blom - Whats going on?

Viktor Isildur1 Blom - Whats going on?

Viktor Isildur1 Blom 2016 - Whats going on?

It seems like he comes online like every day, and most of the time losing 5k and then not back until next day again. Anyone got an idea why he does like this?

Why not sit down with 20k and play, why 5k~ every single day?
He cant be broke because he keeps coming back the next day, and it cant be a smart move either to decide to give it a go with just 5k every single day, and then not play at all for the rest of the day.

Does he have a daily 5k limit on deposits?
What u guys think?

Didn't know galfond and Isildur1 were good friends. I know him and wilhasha were really close. The stories wilhasha told about Isildur1 even on the euro sites before anyone knew about him were legendary.

I love the fact that Isildur could not verbalize his thought process. He was a savant, he just invented how to play and could not explain it. This is why solver poker is so sad these days. There are no styles, there is only one way now, the PIO way. Galfond could be right about Isildur, he may be sad these days regarding how it turned out, but if it was any other sphere, he would be revered. Just so happens that poker is not like sports or arts and the endgame of profit is the only metric, with

I would take that with a grain of salt about him not being able to articulate his thought process. Its either the perspective of galfond or just to make good content. I got a very close friend that is extremely strong theory wise and all around very strong plo player that talked a decent ammount of strat with isildur. He was very surprised how well he had figured out things, and this is still quite recently post the solver era, reckon like 2019 ish. They also played a lot with each other during that time so I would say he had a good insight to his game. Another part of why it's kinda created to make good content from galfonds side is the whole part of saying he disappeared and didn't recover. Which clearly isn't true.

really hope one day (even if it's 10-20 years away) someone connects with him on some kind of emotional/intimate(non sexual) level and writes/records something of it. bc a lot of us im sure relate to him, his experience was just so much more extreme and it would be interesting to get deep into what made him this way

Thanks for clarifying this, kappa.

Shameless plug as I helped write and produce this, but I can't imagine 99%+ of people ITT not liking it. 20 minutes of untold Isildur stories by Phil Galfond:

What's up with showing all those FTP hands but using sound effects of the Pokerstars software? Also, why did you skip the "Martonas"-part of this story?

On a side note, I loved how Phil "biggest loser in deuce to seven triple draw in the history of online poker" Galfond made ABSOLUTELY clear he wasn't trying to lure Blom into playing this game lol

As for all the nuthugging, Blom was basically a new and improved version of Gus Hansen when compared to the level of players he elected to compete with. There's no denying it took a special type of talent to achieve a very small loss rate against the best in the world, but losing like 1bb/100 will obviously still crush you in the long term. It's not exactly surprising that his career ended with him not only being broke but in massive debt/makeover. The thought that a company like Pokerstars would even touch this type of massive degenerate, let alone hand him a massive multi-year contract seems ludicrous from today's perspective.

*and ran 3 million dollars over EV in 2000 hands

30 buy-ins is basically nothing in super aggro PLO heads-up. It happens. On a side note, Blom actually typed something like "take the rest (ie several hundred k), I don't want it" in chat at one point.

Great video Phil ! As always, love his channel at YouTube .

Someone’s DTF 😂

well of course everyone's down to fingerbang

Seems kinda unfair to Viktor to leave out the part where the two guys combined their databases together and colluded to basically cheat him out of his bankroll. Loved it otherwise.

It was very surface level. Not much substance.

Wish he told more personal/degen stories with these characters, like he did on the Ivey episode. The real story behind JRB would be interesting. How does a guy like that milk millionaires for that much before they wise up.

hi ye inbox me sweet little child

Anyone knows if he is still playing somewhere ?

it cited multiple reasons for why he lost it all, from playing OFC, to not studying, to BR management skills. failing to mention a bunch of pros teaming up to violate site TOS to beat you out of several mil seems an oversight.

The team vs isildur result can be oversight but not mentioning it makes it seem like he was painting it his way. Public speaking involves considering optics, so I think it's fair for people to be expecting him to at least mention that Isildur's big demise was Hastings et al forming a little think tank to take him down.

This felt more like an interesting interview about a famous player than a documentary anyway, so it wasn't wholly necessary I guess.

The only interesting part about the video is the story about trying to get isildur to make training videos.

Only two purposes to the video: get guaranteed clicks by mentioning isildur1 (is Galfond still doing a youtube prop bet?) and to get reputation by saying how he's friends with someone actually cool

yes i seen him WSOP playing $1500 badugi and 8-game mix. Also, you can check out his Hendon Mob. I also know he played a bit of big o on apps.

It was so obvious to me I didn't even realize - but yeah, this 100% should have been in. Still best Galfond's video yet!

You think Phil Galfond put this video out there in the hope that you would think he's cool because he is friends with Viktor Blom?

You really think that?

Galfond said he would take on anyone / everyone in the big games. But wasn't he notorious for his game selection and only playing when Guy or Gus was at the table?

Galfond basically camped at Hansen's HU table and lived by the computer waiting for Gus to pop up.

Yeah.

Like Galfond said, raw talent means nothing nowadays.

Maybe at low to mid NLHE. I dont know, i dont play NLHE.

But raw talent is for sure still very important in other forms of poker.

Most of the video was about other games of poker. Mostly PLO which is Galfond's game.

I have played as a pro since before the FTP nosebleeds days.

I would estimate that for me personally its > 50% raw talent.

I would say the same for many of the nosebleed PLO crushers today.

I seem to remember it also like this. He only sat HS when there was a huge VIP playing( shout-out to malACEsia, who remembers, remembers 😆 )

Being a good player confident enough to take anyone, and enjoying making loads of money vs weaker players. Doesn’t seem a contradiction to me. In fact, money>>>>>>>>ego 😃

Yeah I remember listening to pods with him - at smaller stakes he'd play anyone, but at nosebleeds he was picking his spots, as moving down was very difficult because there was nosebleeds, then 10/20 kinda level and big money jump but a pretty small skill jump between the, accounted for recs
