$50 dollar bills bad luck?
I play donkaments and have been superstitious about this, only because I heard they are bad luck and to never buy in with $50 dollar bills. Is this only in poker or all gambling? Does anyone else believe this/heard of this too?

This is the stupidest thread I've seen of 2+2 in quite a while.
$50 USD Notes are legal tender for payment of all debts, public or private. It is printed right on the bill, same thing is printed on $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $100 notes, etc.
$50 bills are only "bad luck" if you are trying to spend them in New Jersey, but that's because you are in New Jersey.
Sick bump of old thread.
Countdown to stupid ScotchOnDaRocks post: 5 . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . . .
$2 chips are convenient for taking dropping the rake. less volume and weight in the box
Rake typically does reach $5 (one red chip) on most pots in the room.
I think the intention behind $2 chips was to maximize tips. Typically when breaking the chips dealers opt for more $2's than $1's and as you can probably guess while most players will ask for change if they only have red or bigger chips, almost no one will bother to ask for change if they just have a $2 or if the small pot getting pushed to them has a $2 chip as the smallest denomination chip.
Ya 50s are mushy thatβs a fact.. it has to do w countingβ¦
50 plus 20 plus 20 etc is a weird number.
So you always have to have an even number of 50s or your roll will be 430 or some weird number.
If you thought those numbers are weird you should check out the American metric system. π
I was once told by an OMC I played with that $50βs were frowned upon in some parts of the country because USG had help win the civil war. He only used $100βs and $20βs and tipped $5βs and $1βsβ¦.
Wow, funny that this thread bumped. Just a few days ago, I was at an ATM that allowed you to choose your cash in $100, $20 and $5 denominations. As he dispensed his cash, the guy in front of me turned to me and said, "weird that it doesn't allow you to get $10s and $50s."
Me: "That's because $50s are bad luck."
Him: "Wait... really?"
Me: "Apparently, it's a long-time Vegas thing that Grants are bad luck. Not sure why, but it is."
Him: "Then why $10s?"
Me: "Because of Hamilton. When that came out, $10s got really popular and I think they ran out."
Him: "Weird."
Not sure if he believed me on any part of what I said. To this day, I don't really get the lore of $50 bills but I'll admit I don't take them whenever it comes up. I'll just change them from $20s, $10s and $5s. So I'll admit I've bought into the odd lore.
Strange, the only place I've ever gotten a $50 bill is from the Wells Fargo ATMs. No where else, weird.

This is ****ing hilarious.
$10 bills have been my favorite bill since the SNL short of Chronic(WHAT)les of Narnia.
It's not the denomination per se that is bad luck. It's that president Grant is on the bill and he was notorious for being a massive losing player in poker.
I use nine if I’ve had chili.

These are facts of gambling.
Wells Fargo atm only atm that gives you 50 as the standard.
Mushy bank, mushy 50s
Most Wells ATM's only do 50's but if you go inside the branch atm it will spit out 100's
Stones has $2 chips. I remember them being a lavender color or something. But as others said, it comes up for the smaller limit games like $4/8 Omaha8.
In my experience in Northern California, $4/$8 limit games are more commonly played with $1 chips, because it generates more action when the players see a larger pile of chips in the pot. $2 chips are commonly used for $6/$12 and $8/$16 limit games. I remember at least one room (Lucky Chances, I think) that used to spread a $9/$18 limit game using $3 chips, and the Oaks used to spread a $1/$2 limit game using $0.50 chips.
I hate 2 chips. Also 10 chips. 1/5/25/100/500 is the way to go.
ritualized thinking... how awesome.
50s are considered bad luck cause the old font looked exactly like a 5$ bill and old birds would confuse them and be out 45$ or whatever.

This was the story I heard more than once from old time road gamblers. And have to confess I followed it - to the extent that any time I got paid in 50"s those went to my wife π
The less circulated a denomination is, the less familiar people will be with it, and the easier it will be to pass a counterfeit.
Geting paid counterfeit money is bad luck.
do those bill counting machines in the cage automatically scan for counterfeits?
