Where did all your poker grinders go over the years?
I'd think stocks, crypto, sports betting all scooped up the poker degens over the last decade

Great thread
It seems 2010s because the state of poker for a lot of people is frozen in 2012. After Black Friday they never learned to adapt with the game, and because of this, they got left behind and now they’re like relics of a historical time
I haven't given it a lot of thought but look @ the software of coin poker, look @ the software of wpt gold (which Doug is playing on) why would you want to play on this? 1. The players are v v good. 2. The client looks awful.
AFAIK the rake on gg is huge.
You've got bots, RTA rampant, collusion between friends/team, whatever whatever.
There is a reason grinding online poker seems less worthwhile!

I'm not quite sure what stumeister is saying.
If i'm interpreting his post right, I think it is highly unlikely he will ever be a winning poker player 😀
Def feels like easy money is somewhere else than poker now. Crypto scams maybe.
For me I think part of it is that back in that era, for young people with a certain set of interests, poker was a natural end point. People who played competitive games as children or teenagers would have been exposed naturally to a lot of strategy games (Warcraft 3, Starcraft etc). If you enjoy games like that, its a pretty normal transition to poker - where you can use your analytical skill and competitive mindset to play an 18+ game and potentially win money.
Nowadays that whole genre of gaming is basically dead, its not the main thing to play if you are into competitive games. Young people dont naturally have aquired skills from their interests that translate to poker. Gamers are from an early age herded into fast paced dopamine hit chasing games and no longer have a natural aptitude to play poker well.
So yea one group that would translate to potential poker players barely exists any more. As for degens, the fact that poker is less popular and visible compared to DFS or online slots, make them go there instead of poker to degen.
In 2010 I could fire up 18 tables of 180 man tournaments that would fill up in no time flat.
This is nothing like 2010.

When I was a cardrunner in 2010 or 11 I always thought to myself I would happily play 200nl as a pro due to computer assistance being too important at high stakes for these games to be spread online long term.
Now we're here...
I just didn't think I would be grinding satellites 😁
Hadnt googled that name in about a decade. Looks like she's a mom of two and aged like a fine wine. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHXyYnAxB...
I tried long ago to change the avatar but it wouldn't let me. Oh Shay Maria

2008-2011 orc player here, you're right about that. an addition, the plethora of social media revenue sources + crypto makes grinding feel like a 9 to 5 job.
