2025 WSOP 25k Fantasy
The 2025 WSOP 25k Fantasy team have been set
For those of you not in the know, you essentially draft 8 WSOP players, hidden in a draft with a budget of $200. 16 teams take part, and points are given for every ITM finish your players achieve.
I found some of the player values to be overinflated this year. Jeremy Ausmus went for $141, Scott Seiver for $125 which I just canβt see being value. There seems to be this whole strategy of going insanely overboard on one player, finding a medium-strength player for around $50, and filling the rest up with $1 players that no one else wanted.
I can see the $1 players over performing their relative value, but not sure about these $100+ players.
ok
I think Deeb passed on entering this year, he said something to the effect of too many teams and player research to do. To have a chance at this, besides drafting the top players, you need to really know who is playing a full schedule.

DNegs did
where he says people were sending him their full schedules in the hopes of getting drafted.Puts you at a disadvantage if you arenβt getting this information fed to you.
Why would you hope to get drafted? Notoriety? Better staking opportunities? Who cares?

And he still went ahead and spent most of his budget on himself haha

When you get drafted you have a team of degens eagerly wanting to buy pieces(or even stake) you in any and every event for the summer, especially if you catch fire early and have potential to earn a lot of points.
That proposition is pretty intriguing to just about anyone
Nerds getting picked for the kickball team
Entered ODB DFS. $525
No idea what I'm doing, just clicked buttons.

Theres a lot of shitregs and mid stakes live grinders hoping to have that one luckbox year that can make them a household name and lifelong staking deals to fuel their degen life styles. Getting into something like DNegs' fantasy draft and get featured on his vlog would be a big step towards that goal.

No one is a house hold name anymore. Once Doyle died there might be two or three players left that could be considered. No one outside of poker would have a clue who Texas Mike or Alex Foxen is. And maybe a sizeable % of people in poker room at any one time don’t either.
Yeah having a luckbox year is the goal for everyone. No player is as good as their run. Toxic post, it’s all just part of the game. Can’t we just assume a large part is that being drafted would be fun and motivating?

Only if they give me a part of their winnings I make them. Or we're friends of course.
And yea, nobody knows poker players anymore. Your few friends you played home games with 15 years ago know ivey and Negreanu

Yeah the household name part is definitely wrong but everything else is probably accurate. Once you make a few good scores can likely get staking deals which if you are a degen without bankroll management is key to staying in action.
Took me a good couple minutes to even remember the guy who made all those scores a few years back, fedor holz

No i think itβs all inaccurate, although I didnβt articulate the main point
They are sending him what their full schedule of events are to be so already have means of playing this year. So they can make or not make big scores.but being a part of a 25K team wouldnβt really enhance future staking deals.
I donβt think itβs that complicated, it would fun to be on a team. Poker is an individual grind, could be a nice sweat at end and team members rooting and supporting each other. Then party at end if you win

Twenty years ago tell people you are going to wsop, “ohh you going to play with people on TV?”. Now it’s “cool, good luck’
Ivey, Hellmuth, and Negreanu that’s all general public may know.
I’m not sure about Hellmuth, but Negreanu is only one recs are excited to see and is friendly enough where people ask him for pictures and stuff. So I don’t understand why he gets shat on all the time. Fun casual players aren’t looking to come and see Stephen Chidwick or anything like that

I agree being on a 25k team wouldn't enhance staking deals, it's getting the cashes/wins that'd enhance future staking opportunities.
I can't remember the name of the site but I remember there was some big staking site and a lot of the people getting staked were no names and didn't even appear to have great results. And some of their action was still getting bought. Apparently there's a solid market for people who want to be in the action but not actually show up and play the tourney.

I mean, someone like Maurice Hawkins is definitely within the category of household name shitreg, although hes put in the work over more than a few years to get there. And hes doing exactly what I said, living life by being staked by people who dont do their due diligence. I imagine its the dream of a lot of break even grinders, I see some people on insta literally begging to get drafted in their stories.

They are already probably playing the tourneys whether they are on the 25K team or not. So there’s no difference.
But if they do play more (on their own dime), then it’s due to fun and motivating reason.

You would have to define household name, but no person outside poker has any clue who he is. Then depending on poker venue Iβd say overwhelming number of poker players donβt either. Heβs just a household name in 2+2 bubble.
I have no doubt people are begging to get drafted, but itβs not to get staked.
If someone is playing a full slate of WSOP events, of course they are going to want to get backing if they can. Tournament entries, especially when firing multiple bullets, add up. Moreover, tournament play comes with extremely high variance even for crushers. Being drafted for this year might not affect a player's backing prospects this year, but it makes them more visible for next year.
Another benefit of being drafted as a horse in the 25K is that many teams will let their horses buy a share of the team.
I would love to be drafted, but I'm an old guy, and my planned schedule of nine events, including the main, stretches the limits of my stamina. I would be hard pressed to even try to play a full lineup of events. I don't belong in an EV-driven picker's team.
