Milly Maker 130bb jam from loose agg

Milly Maker 130bb jam from loose agg

Level 8
Blinds 500/1000 1000bb ante

Hero in SB with AKo. ~130k effective.

EP villain is short stacked after just losing almost entire stack to villain 2 (BTN) maybe one obit earlier. EP jams last ~10k. Folds to BTN who calls. I raise to 40k in SB with AKo.

BTN has been fairly active and playing a lot of hands since sitting down. Has only been at the table for one level. 3 betting a lot but has not had to show down many hands.

BTN thinks and jams (has me covered by like 20k). I call. BTN doesn’t look happy and says “dang, you have it huh?”
EP has JTo
BTN has 88

Q33Q9 runout.

Feel like I definitely cannot be folding AK preflop early in a big field tournament. Need to build a stack and get money in with premiums, right? If a A or a K come then I’m sitting on ~280bb heading into dinner break and I never think about this hand again.

Maybe instead I call the 10k and see a flop? Thoughts on how I could’ve played this spot better would be appreciated!

Just 3-bet jamming pre is better than flatting or making a smaller raise, specifically with AKo from the SB.

u can raise also i think, now if ICM were involved u would always want to jam. u dont ever want to have to call off if ICM at final table

I prefer to call here in the SB preflop. My next choice would be jamming because I would raise to about 50k and that is more than 40% effective stack.

The problem with raising is that we don't know what BTN will do or has done. BTN can be calling with any pair including AA/KK though we block those. Even if we get BTN out of the pot we still have to beat the all in player anyway in order to make anything. By raising to 40k we give BTN incentive to jam and try to get us to fold for side pot money. Also if BTN calls we basically have to jam the flop which gives BTN the ability to do the right thing in position.

Often post flop when a player is all in and there is no side pot, people will check without top pair. Sometimes they will check with top pair to induce bets. So my guess is that BTN would be checking the flop (assuming we check) and possibly bets the turn if we check the turn. But BTN might be worried we have 99-JJ and just continue to check back here.

My preference to not jam here is because I think we risk a lot in a situation where it might not even be +EV if we are called by a pair. And if we get the fold it is worth slightly more in that there will be about 33% extra money in the pot that we might not win anyway...

This is the way. Only 3b here with AK if you think you can induce AQ or worse to backshove/continue. But doubt that's likely so just rip it and make him fold 88/99 maybe even TT

Yeah I like the rip in this spot too unless the flat is from a tricky reg, then I am suss AF.
