Pub-Poker MTT Strategy Question

Play plenty of decent/marginal hands in position for cheap early on when you’re super deep, id day it’s a race to get the chips off all the very bad players.

When you’re ahead manipulate the pot on every street so before they know it their whole stack is in the middle on the river.

I’d go so far to say pub poker is basically an exploitative dream.

Top boat but dude is calling all his draws? Just bet 2x pot on every street.

Woman who hasn’t bet all night suddenly starts blasting? Just fold everything except your strongest hands.

It’s also gonna be the same bunch of locals every week right, as soon as you suss them out you can just print.

Bet there’s a couple of dudes who are nitty to start the night but once they have sunk a few they are just donking around like everyone else.

That all tracks as good advice. I'd just add, don't do anything stupid just because other players are playing badly. Play your game, play to get the most out of them, but don't start feeling like you have to play wild and bad just because they are.

Yep unless you’re in QLD or NSW there’s nothing but pub poker. Crown is an utter disgrace.

I’d consider a trip to one of the APL or APT series if you have a chance. Great structures, large fields, wide variety of buyins. The APL millions in August Gold Coast is huge.

The final week is sensational. Jackstar, ME, Monster, and Closing event - four $1500 BI events in a week. Could add 2’x $2500 also with an earlier start.

Which events are you playing?

I'm a little big confused by that 40bb/30/20/10bb chart. Are you saying that you only open those hands when you have those stacks?

If that is the case then you are playing way too tight (and I'm not surprised that you only played 2 hands).

Just to give you an idea here's what GTOWizard recommends as an UTG opening range off of a 40bb stack.

Given how loose this game is you should certainly tighten that up but not to the extent that you are already doing. I'd actually advocating open-limping a lot of those hands with nut potential (low pocket pairs, Axs, suited connectors) since you probably don't have the fold equity to open with them

Given the turbo nature of the structure if you stick with your stated ranges you will end up bubbling/min-cashing a lot unless you get hit on the head with the deck.

These are the ones I'm looking at but it may change depending on results and I'm also meeting a friend there for his 30th so we're doing some non poker activities too

Awesome mate, gl in the ME satties too. It’s by far the best ME in Australia atm. Ten (10) day one flights for a $1500 BI is insane.
