KTs in BB with 11xBB and raise and 2 callers

Live daily tournament. 20 players left, 9 places pay. I have 47K before posting 8K, about half the average stack. About 1/3 limped pots. About 1/3 raised pots, the raiser takes it preflop. Blinds 2K/4K/4K.

UTG+1 raises to 9K, two callers. I call in the BB with KdTd. Could shove, but don't think it goes through often. Maybe that is the play to get HU with dead money and occasionally resteal.

Flop is QcJc3d. I open shove the flop. Not happy that this board should hit people, but think I need to semibluff with about psb left.

Why open shove? As you said it hits at least one of them 100%. Why not check hoping to see a free card or check/shove? C/S lets them put in money before having the option to fold to a shove. The money is going in regardless, I think you pick up more blinds and have more fold equity as a check/shove.

Calling pre-flop is good out of the BB. Getting a massive overlay with a suited broadway is always nice. As you said, a shove is likely to not get through, especially live where they have no concept of shove/calling ranges. Plus to them it just looks like you're trying to steal the pot which has more than half your stack in it by being last to act. I agree with the above comment. Checking is the best option. Sometimes it checks through for a free card. Sometimes UTG does something weird like bet 9k again with AK or something and you can get even better pot odds to hit your straight without committing your stack

I thought I had to shove because if I take it with the pot size shove I close to double up, which is huge.

Preflop raiser called with KQo, I had about 35% equity and busted.

I think given spr what you do doesn’t really matter a ton, me personally I would check and hope that there’s a cbet + call so I can give myself better odds. Also if PFR just rips and everyone else folds I can muck sometimes.

Yeah it's kind of the same result, but checking just allows a small chance at a free card to be realized. I'm sure I've been in this spot dozens of times and have probably shoved many of them as well

I like the shove. Guy holding 2nd pair or top pair bad kicker more likely to fold to a shove than a check raise.
