$3 MTT: Final 3 - folding in SB to 3rd place short stack to threaten 2nd place

$3 MTT: Final 3 - folding in SB to 3rd place short stack to threaten 2nd place

I'm final 3 and the overwhelming chip leader. I have 63bbs, while second place has 5bbs and a shortstack has 1bb.

I am wondering if you think it is a good play for me to fold my SB hand to the short stack BB, in order to keep him in the game, and threaten the 2nd place player into busting out in 3rd.

Or is it a better play to call 1/2bb out of the small blind with Q T to try to win a 1.70bb pot?

BB: 0.95 BB
BTN: 4.84 BB
Hero (SB): 63.21 BB

3 players post ante of 0.13 BB, Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 0.82 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.69 BB) Hero has Q T

fold, Action is on Hero in the small blind. What is the play here?

What is the payout structure?

I mean, the future games impact of this is definitely a thing. But I definitely think calling is the way to go. I think it screws the 5bb guy way more than it helps you. But it can also allow for the 5bb guy to win a more significant pot vs the soon to be 2 bb guy, or to win a 3 way all in vs you and the 2 bb guy.

If the 5bb stack is a threat to you, I have to imagine a 5bb stack and a 2bb stack is more of a threat. 2 small chances for you 2 not take first vs 1 small chance. Even if you get to icm bully them while there are 3 left.

Thanks for your input. The payouts were: 1st $85, 2nd $64 and 3rd $48.

I see your point of how I have to worry about giving life to two small threats. However, I was more focused on grinding down the bigger of the threats and making his 5bb stack be focused more on outlasting the 3rd place.

Here is an example of how I did that after folding the QTs hand, and the 2nd place stack is now in the big blind.

SB: 1.69 BB
BB: 4.71 BB
Hero (BTN): 62.59 BB

3 players post ante of 0.13 BB, SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.87 BB) Hero has 4 T

Hero raises to 62.46 BB and is all-in, fold, fold

Hero wins 2.87 BB
