$600 live tournament-call or fold to turn shove for tournament life?

Start of day 2 of a multi flight $600 live tournament. We’re in the money with about 70 players left

I’ve played about an orbit with villain and he seems like a competent player based off of conversation with him and the few hands I’ve seen him play.

Blinds are 5k/10k and about to go up to 6k/12k. Starting stack 265k and villain has us covered

Villain UTG + 3 opens to 23k

Hero: in the LJ look down at AJ clubs and calls

Folds all around and BB calls

Flop (84k) Jh 6c 5h

BB-checks
Villian-bets 45k
Hero-calls
BB-folds

Turn (174k) 4s

Villain Jams
Hero?

I’m worried about over pairs and maybe some low sets. Figure villain could also have plenty of flush draws and maybe even some AJ or KJ. There are no immediate pay jumps so not as worried about busting at this point vs if it were later in the tournament. If stacks were shorter and this was 75% pot bet I think it’s an easy call and if stacks were bigger and this was a 150% pot bet I think it’s an easy fold. At a little over pot size bet I’m torn.

Folding wouldn’t be terrible preflop. Why not raise the flop?

It would.

Why not raise the flop?

Agreed, I think I like raise/GII here. Or just call the turn shove. I'm not super thrilled about it, but he could have KJ or a heart draw. SPR less than 3 on the flop with TPTK this strong, I think you just have to go with it.

Flick it in

Not opposed to jamming pre either although calling is standard obv.

V did bet smallish into two preflop callers of his potsisize raise from MP, for whatever that’s worth. Probably had 66 or else why is there a thread about it, but what else are you hoping to flop with AJ aside from Christmas Morning?

Or H read of V as competent was wrong! 😃

He ended up having pocket queens I think it’s mainly just cooler, but wanted to see what others thought about it. I didn’t think about raising flop though

IÂ’m still curious why this is a standard snapcall in this particular situation.

yep im calling, unlucky he had it

I am 3 betting preflop. I would fold to a 4-bet jam most of the time (if it was a wide raiser its an easy call). But this would be bad if our 3-bet were called because we will likely get c/r jammed on the flop and it would be a must call.

As played the turn bet is over pot size so Villain needs to be bluffing like 30% of the time to break even. It is a polarizing bet so Villain can have QQ+/66/55/JJ/87s (26 combos) where we are drawing dead. If Villain is bluffing with a flush draw and with overcard(s) and a pair or straight draw we are getting the right price to call. But it isn't clear if there are enough combos to make it worth it. My guess is that the flop bet sizing indicates strength so I would likely just fold to the turn jam.

Pre is standard. Flop is standard, maybe can make some argument for raise but in a multi-way situation IP can't go too wrong by not having raises here. Might be more inclined to raise when we don't have backdoor clubs.

Turn is annoying, but have to get it in.
