Pre Flop Raise Sizing In Position vs Out of Position

I have usually followed the concept that it can be better to use a slightly larger opening size when opening from out of position preflop, and use a slightly smaller opening size when in position preflop. My understanding is that I will realize my equity less often, when out of position, as well as, face more difficult decisions/sticky spots post flop while out of position. Therefore, the larger open while out of position would increase more folds from opponents, result in less multiway pots post flop, and increase the chance of winning the hand preflop, and I am happy with that result when I am out of position.

I have noticed some content lately from sites such as Upswing, suggesting to use a smaller opening size while out of position and a larger opening size while in position.

Realizing everything can be player/table dependent, dependent on stack depths, and I will mix it up on the button depending on the player types in the blinds, What are your thoughts on these two contrasting strategies? PFR Sizing in position vs out of position

A lot of factors play into it including online or live, capability of your opponents, their 3bet frequencies, etc. The principle behind opening larger on the button is that it's less likely someone will 3bet than if you open from EP, and you will have ultimate position postflop so you will realize your equity better. At a loose passive live table where your opens will get lots of calls but you rarely get squeezed light, I like sizing up somewhat pre flop to leverage your stronger range against the terrible range's of your opponents and get value pre. This just takes experiementing and trial and error to find the right sizes, but if Bob who's 4 beers deep is never folding a suited queen or better to any size, by all means make him pay to see those flops

What is your definition of out of position and in position when it comes to opening?

I wonder that too. Obv there are only two positions where you can be absolutely sure you will be ip or oop after the flop if you open: Button and SB.
