Millions $55 PKO Hand
Hi Guys.
Interesting spot (at least for me anyway haha).
So, we're deep in the above tournament. Currently 7th of 11 (620 runners). Next pay jump is 9th going from $154 to $186. 1st prize is $1900 plus bounties (currently have $145 in bounties).
I'm in the BB with 25bbs.
UTG open off a stack of 11bb, 2x. He has a bounty of $103. BTN calls, SB calls, I look down at Ts3h. Obviously by no means a good hand to defend with but with the pot size and the bounty on the line, I elect to make a call for 1bb.
Flop is 8s 6s 3d.
SB checks. I check. UTG bets 1.9bb.
Folds back to me. Again, given we've caught a small piece and the bounty in play, I elect to call.
Turn is Ks. I check.
UTG thinks for a bit before jamming for his remaining 9.9bbs.
Thoughts?

Fold pre. Your hand is garbage with little potential, you're deep enough in the tournament that the ICM considerations of your stack matter, and I'm also presuming UTG isn't stupid - minraising off 11BB in a tournament where people are going to call wide to try to bust him should set off alarm bells.
You might have 5 outs here.

Yeah, noted.
I did end up calling and he showed QcQd and held.
Tbh you're in better shape than I thought, I was fully expecting to see AA with the As. But his value range pre is almost certainly big pairs, and given the situation I dunno how much he's balancing that with bluffs.

Yeah absolutely mate. I think it's a bit of a leak of mine late stage in bounty tournaments. Chasing the bounty that is.
My reasoning (rightly or wrongly) was that the next pay jump was around $30 and this lad has treble that on his head - figured if he didn't have a spade, I might be in my rights to call the turn shove (didn't do the math at the time, but pinned my hopes on him not having a spade).
Cheers for the input 👍
Also:
This would be true even without the bounty, but this is 100% a fold at this stage of the tournament without it. Stack preservation is more important than accumulation at this point, and unless you flop two pair or better, which you almost never do, the most likely outcome is that you keep putting money in behind.
(Actually, I don't think I would defend this hand at any stage of any tournament. There's just no potential there. Even T3s you could justify a call in this spot because flush draw equity could be enough to go bounty-hunting.)

Yeah, the bounty being so much more than the pay jumps might lead us to see more flops when we can win it. But there's still a push-pull effect between that and ICM, and with offsuit unconnected rags we just can't make a hand with reasonable equity often enough to justify getting it in, and we need to also think about preserving our stack both for the pay jumps and for the ability to win future bounties with better equity.

Yeah, all great points mate.
I tightened up a bit last night in the Millions $33 Mystery Bounty. Lost a big pot with about 120 left with JJ v AK that left me with 3.5bbs but managed to spin it up and finished 4th for $640. I didn't go all guns blazing chasing bounties, rather just picked my spots and won a few nice ones with them being mystery bounties - picked up nearly $400 in bounties alone.
You’re just done here. Bottom pair, trash kicker, and the flush comes in. Even with bounty math this is a punt if you call. Easy fold and move on to a better spot.
I'm folding T3o vs 3 players here preflop. I don't think I would even play T3s here. Maybe if we were going HU I would play T3s.
The other thing is why somebody would open UTG for 2bb's with 11bb's. It feels like a PP that is decent. I would be jamming any open with 11bb's especially UTG.
