Chipraise too early???

Chipraise too early???

Yo ... i'm a PLO cash player by trait, but have been playing more NL tourneys lately with OK success (couple of deeper runs itm, nothing major though), so i'm getting more interested in this topic and general strategy.

my question:
i've seen it now multiple times in different tourney structures, that a chipraise happens very early, for example in a tourney i played yesterday, the 100 chips were raised with the 500/1K Level coming up. The follow up was not 600/1200, but 1k/1.5K, so we didn't really need those Chips anymore, but i'm fairly limited with my raises pre, can't go 2.2K for example ... it has to be 2K or 2.5K, nothing in between.

Is this not limiting?
Why do they do that (besides for speeding up the tourney), is there any other reason behind i don't understand?
How do you guys adept to this, with regard to your raise sizes, you go bigger or smaller? (in this case, 2K or 2.5K with blinds 500/1K)
thx

I believe you are talking about when chips are removed from the table.

I have never seen this happen at 500/1000 (where we wouldn't have 100 chips anymore). I have seen it happen at the 1000/1500 level though. Where we can raise to 3000 or 3500 (or more).

Raising sizes for me are related to effective chip stacks. I will typically raise to 3x when effective stacks are over 100 blinds. I am 2.5x between 50 and 100 (more or less). And 2.1x at 15 to 50 (I will jam below 15 blinds)

Because I typically won't min raise to 2x I am usually going to go with 3500 at 1000/1500. But most people at this site will minraise to 3000 (or 2x). I do this because I find BB's will fold sometimes to more than a minraise where they would have called to a 2x minraise. But if I had <27 blinds I would likely raise to just 3000.

If it were to happen at 500/1000 and I had <50 blinds I would min raise to 2000 because my standard would have been 2100 and 2500 is just too much at this point.

Idk if this answers you: you can raise in increments of whatever the lowest denomination is on the table.

So, 100, you could make it 300, 400, 500 over a 100 call. Or 1.2k, 1.3, 1.4, etc.

If 500's are the lowest, you could raise 4k, 4.5k, 5.5k etc.
