SNL - It's funny again! (seriously its not)
I think it's a really good idea for everyone to start watching Saturday Night Live again. Last season was great, and thi
i haven't watched an episode from start to finish in about 20 years and only see about 2-3 a month that go big on socials these days so my opinion is obviously bunk here
but despite not knowing longfellow by name - he was fairly prominent in the skits that got filtered my way and i thought he was good in them
heidi seemed like the shows attempt at replacing wiig so very surprised they got rid of her despite that i didn't care for her (didn't care for wiig either but surprising like her a lot in her film career)
but her getting the boot 2 years after divorcing her writer/creator/producer husband who made her his personal nepo hire (that's how she got her start was he cast her in his own stuff) is hardly surprising
i'm sure she'll be given every chance to make it in mass media but would honestly be surprised if she stuck - kinda feels like cheri oteri/molly shannon/rachel dratch/maya rudolph type territory of a female whom got leaned on heavily and was given a few vehicles of her own afterwards which all flopped
doubt we'll see much of longfellow, will probably eek it out with character actor roles and podcast appearances
a lot of former castmates have been fired for the most arbitrary reasons in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if in 5 years we find out some really circumstances regarding the firing of heidi
remember a lot of the former guys from my era that i like a lot (norm/sandler/spade/etc) would all talk about how cut throat and toxic an environment it is where everyone is fighting each other to befriend the writers who choose the actors for their skits and even write their own and campaign for them etc - kinda feels like a lot of the people who are let go were not so much because of a lack of talent (as much as i think the show is lame, i totally get how difficult it is to do live skit comedy each week and not throw up plenty of bombs) but rather that they simply didn't get along with the right people
I'm about 90% certain that Heidi left voluntarily according to various sources online.
I saw Michael Longfellow do a standup set at my performance space 2 weeks before he was announced as a cast member. Based on his standup, I was really interested to see what he’d bring to the table from a writing perspective, but I don’t know if he really got a chance to shine.
Saw a bunch of reports today this week is Bowen Yang's last show. He wasn't my favorite early but kind of grew on me.
He has been very prominent and in lots of sketches. This will definitely leave a hole.
This was one of the funnier skits in awhile.
SNL is so bad that it's good.
