Which book specifically has the events of HotD in? I just spoiled myself quite bad when trying to find out through google

Am i right in thinking its a small part amongst other stories in Fire and Blood?

that is my understanding, yes

There's also The Rogue Prince and The Princess and the Queen

edit: Oh just googled and apparently Fire and Blood has expanded versions of these two stories. I haven't read Fire and Blood obviously.

I'm in the bookreader club now after going through all five books since Season 4 ended.

Ten years ago I thought:
"It took five years from the publishing of Book 3 to Book 4. And then six years from the publishing of Book 4 to Book 5.

So, it's been three years already. Book 6 should be out by 2017. And the 7th and final book by 2023.

I can wait."

That logic was why I was willing to jump into the series.

I genuinely feel bad for fantasy literature fans who read and loved A Game of Thrones when it came out in 1996.

Martin turns 76 in September. He always seems much more interested in doing other projects.

I think I might have joined the pessimists group that thinks he won't finish the series.

At this point I think I'd lay -400, maybe -500 that he won't finish the series. Sad, ASOIAF grabbed me like nothing I've ever read before when I picked it up in the mid '00s (I actually picked up GOT based on a thread on 2+2 on "what's your favorite book in the last 10 years, and someone answered "any of the ASOIAF books that qualify" which got a lot of +1s).

I actually self-quoted my own post from '14 ITT last year, but sharing again in solidarity:

I'm personally hoping he's writing both TWOW and ADOS at the same time, and will announce release dates for both simultaneously, one in '15 or '16 and one in '16/'17.

If he isn't, there's still hope for getting ADOS out before the show catches up, but you need to get 2 seasons out of AFFC and ADWD co

In the meantime, GRRM's proteges Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank (aka James S A Corey) finished the entire Expanse series (9 books + 6 novellas) and have started a new series.

Maybe GRRM should ask them to finish ASOIAF

expanse series is the best sci fi I ever read(not that high of a bar). some of it is brilliant. the novella "the churn" is especially good, and short.

I started their new one. it seems good so far, but I'm barely into it

George definitely ain't finishing.

I like to pretend the show ends with s6 so like the true ending, it will forever remain a mystery!

seems likely that winds will be released in the next couple years. also possible that he has made progress on dream over this lengthy delay, because if you think about it, he probably wouldn't write dream without also mapping out the end of the story. so if that's true, a lot of the work on dream is already done, so he just has to sit down and write it. that's the hopium side of the story.

but probably more realistic that he'll never finish, yeah. also because i've seen many suggest that it'll take more than 2 books to wrap up the story.

ok so i guess grrm went to a couple cons recently and apologized for not finishing asoiaf, whined about being too busy, seemed depressed, etc ..... yeah dream is never getting finished. and the way he's talking winds seems further away than i thought, but i could have sworn he said it was like 90% done a year or three ago, idk...

I personally would way rather he wrote a bunch more dunk n egg books than finish ASOIAF but I know I'm majorly in the minority with that opinion.

dunk and egg are great! asoif was a struggle to read book 4(iirc) and then book 5 picked up again. but if it's a struggle to write, then it's probably gonna be a struggle to read

I stumbled across an interesting You Tube channel by a therapist who makes videos analyzing fictional characters. He's done quite a few ASOIAF videos.

If you've got 45-60 minutes to kill, they're a good watch.

Does anyone wish the true story was Varys vs Littlefinger?

Their scenes together s1-3 were among the best.

Story could have ended up with the same result but I wish those 2 were the ones pulling on the strings that mattered.
