Fargo the film is certainly better than the show, though it has its moments. As for The Gentleman, I’d go the other way in that the show is better than the movie. It has plenty of Guy’s things but stretched out over 8 episodes instead of crammed into a 2 hour flick.

I agree. Fargo the movie is one of my all-time favorites. Fargo the TV show has some great elements, and it is fun to see how they weave the Coen Brothers universe throughout the story lines. I'm also enjoying seeing how they depict the Guy Ritchie look/feel/characters into a different storytelling format. It is one of the great opportunities presented by cable/streaming channels to tell these "Mature Content" stories on non-broadcast services. They obviously couldn't present this content on ABC.

We rewatched Fargo the movie and the first 4 seasons of the TV show before watching the new season.

Season 1 has very much the vibe of the movie and season 2 might be one of the best anthology series ever. When watching season 3 for the first time I didn't realize how steep the drop from the first two seasons is, but that becomes painfully obvious when you watch them back to back. Still not sure about the purpose of season 4. Really liked season 5. On another rewatch we probably skip seasons 3 and 4.
