without any preparation i would recommand not playing
Live or online? If online, just don't play too high stakes, perhaps play 20% of what you play in NLH. Read some articles, watch some videos. There are many things to keep in mind, perhaps some of them you know or are obvious, don't overvalue hands that are great in NLH like two pairs, and be careful when the pot gets increasingly bigger on each street or it goes MW - someone will have the nuts. I am not saying play and draw exclusively to the nuts, but at high SPR or in MW pots, don't call too many bets when you know you can't make the nuts.
If live, well, the first advice doesn't really apply, since your casino maybe offers 1-2 different blind levels in PLO, which tend to be even bigger than NLH.
So even though the opponents might be bad, they will still be better than you and it will be an expensive way to learn the game.
Good luck!

High card value (if you have 3 or more cards over a 9, great candidate to vpip with)
suitedness (double suited hands = great time)
connectedness (you want the gap in your cards to be at the bottom if there is any, so JT97 is better than J987 etc )
pairs
The more of these combinations of the above that are in your hand the better.
When in doubt, shout pot out. If you dont know how much to bet but you feel you should bet just pot it. Youll want to bet when you want to deny equity to draws always. The hands you bet in plo are pretty polar, top of range, then also bottom. Middling hands like 2 pairs bad sets mexi straights are better to get to showdown
Check/call river is better if youre someone whose naturally a sticky player as bet/calling can get you in trouble.
Dont be afraid to use those blockers!!!
Differences to NL:
Remember to have equity when you're doing things, even bluffing before river. You need to have some outs.
One blocker often isn't enough and don't play pure blockers.
Bet/folding is typically not great since equities run so close. This is a draw game, closer to fixed limit Texas than no limit. If you have to b/f against a raise, maybe x/c or x/f. Sometimes b/f is correct obv. This means that a lot of your semibluffs should have enough equity to b/c.
People have much more AA than in NL. This means that 4-bet bluffing is a thing but much less and often you're semibluffing.
Pocket pair value drastically lowers further you're on the table and picks up a bit closer to the button. AA>>>>KK>>>QQ>>>JJ>>>TT etc. Something like TTxx needs to be really good to be UTG open, something like JTT7$ds, AsTTx$ss in 8-max table. The lower the pairs you go, better the hand needs to be otherwise. Even a bad KK is not a UTG opener.
Connectivity:
Two okay texas hands does not make a good omaha hand. Something like KsQ76$ss is just crap outside button.
If cards kind of connect they really don't connect. KsJT7$ss is much, much better than KsJT6$ss which is KsJT2$ss. Triple gappers are not great.
A card not connected to the other cards can really kill the hand value. KsJh92$ds is a marginal cut-off opener.
This is a nuts game. Try to draw to the nuts especially multiway. If you're constantly getting set over setted or flush over flushes etc. you're playing your hand probably okay post you should have maybe folded pre or 3-betted to play against fewer opponents.
Edit: There's a lot of automatic spots post where it's correct and GTO to pot/call and you have to learn them. This is true especially in 3-bet pots.
