Playing a locked down flop

Checking here in Hold em pretty often, what about PLO?

SB: $4.40 (88 bb)
BB: $15.71 (314.2 bb)
Hero (UTG): $5.00 (100 bb)
CO: $11.51 (230.2 bb)
BTN: $3.93 (78.6 bb)

SB posts $0.02, BB posts $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has 9 Q 8 9
Hero raises to $0.17, 3 folds, BB calls $0.12

Flop: ($0.36, 2 players) Q Q 8
BB checks, Hero?

It depends on the other two cards. I'm checking this. The problem is that those 99 are both blocking your opponent's draws (less JT9 etc.) and also lowering your hand equity against other trips (AQxx).

You should be betting most of your nut fulls.

So you've flopped the nut boat, in position, at $5 PLO, as the preflop raiser.

Not betting here will cost you crazy ev in the long run. You need to be at like ~$50 before you consider checking this back. And even then it should probably only be considered say 1/8.

Bet 12 cents.

Yea I'm not really thinking about deception here nor in Hold em, its purely a matter of just blocking so much of villain's continuing range. Potting it seems pretty bad but so far in my PLO journey I'm not seeing much flop <pot so was viewing this as a check or bet decision.

Do we have 1/3 sizings otf in PLO?

Bet tiny.

Paired boards all the time.

Also what wazz said is correct, plo5 it shouldn't matter too much but in bigger this is a reasonable check-back.

Even fish understand that and change their calling standards to include a bunch of paired hands like JJT8 in a reasonable players' range or JJ72r in a bad players range. They are way stickier and the value you get from that outweighs what you get from trying to let them catch up. Don't let the blockers stop you from getting value. You wouldn't check back AKKK on an AAA69r board just because it's hard to find a hand that will pay you.

Sure, you can bet 1/3rd in some spots. Get creative.

Sounds good, thanks for your replies to this and my other posts. I'm relatively well-studied in NLH but just starting out in PLO so right now we are trying to identify the theory that transfers over.
