How to handle maniac?

Playing in a 2/4 online game and this maniac will play 90%+ of his hands and usually raise pot and build big pots to bet bigger post flip.

Going in my initial thought being to his left is tighten up my range, play hands that have easy post flip decisions and mostly nutted hands. But even then unsure when to take a stand with marginal holdings or missing.

Wanted to play consistent with big or small hands and let him drive the action to drop hammer on turn or River.

Is this wrong? I had tons of variance and felt it was better to wait for more solid situation. Lost on hand after flopping kings full to riveted aces full after getting it all in on the turn.

Not sure how to handle this. Cause some people are occasionally aggressive but this game was pretty much 2/4/14 at least every single hand and sometimes he straddles to 8 and then raises pot making it huge.

I’m just not sure what alterations I need to make to how I play for this. I wanted to play effectively against someone this crazy. He was much luckier than me and I kept catching slightly worse hands on flushes that I need to call to balance calling and that he could literally have anything from single pair to nuts. Always seemed when i was calling semi light to stay consistent of letting him drive the action 75%+ of the time he slightly beat me and just seemed when i had it he found a perfect time to fold. It was almost like he knew my holdings. I even tried to make sure my decision timing was the same cause it was uncanny how he always seemed to make the right plays even though I took the line of calling and hardly ever betting or raising to let him drive the action.

Couldn’t find patterns in his sizing either.

I feel at this point I’m rambling but I’m so confused how someone makes adjustments for someone this crazy but seems to be lucky and seems to make the folds at the right time.

Wait for a strong hand, 4bet him and get it in on a decent flop

We play about 250 BBs deep. Hard to 4bet and stack off.

Tried it a few times and even sometimes he plays back at me. I feel when he does I don’t have recourse with a marginal holding and have to fold.

You can't avoid variance.

Easiest way to beat such players is to make it a pre-flop game.
