Line check with top two on flop
.05/.10 online
Folds to SB who opens to .30
Hero pots to .90 with AsAdJcTs
Sb calls
Flop- Js7cTd
Sb checks
I check back
My thought process was I block top 2 so I donβt have great value targets, and villain can easily have 89. I donβt love giving a free card to Q9 or KQ though.. should I have bet here?
Turn- 9c
Sb bets 1.28 into 1.71
I call
Terrible turnβ¦ but folding here feels incredibly nitty so I decide to call once and plan on folding river if I donβt improve.
River 8c
V checks, I check back and we chop. They had Kh9hJh8d so they had the straight on the turn, river saved me.
In hindsight I think I should have considered betting river with my club blocker.
Any thoughts on how I played the hand or my thought process are appreciated.

Hand is wp I think. You shouldn't be overly concerned about being nitty on the turn. I know many players against whom I think it's a good fold.
I don't think river bet is very good unless you think he folds most straights.
Still bet the flop and fold the turn. I know you block value hands but in this spot its a scary board you want to deny equity. Giving free cards is just not good here. Your making it easy for him to basically call pre with any 4 cards and when you check he can fire away on a lot of scare cards and barrel rivers. Betting also doesn't cap your range. If he raises the flop its not a disaster situation. If hes more on the aggressive side with draws I would call and fold to someone that is more on the nitty side that likes to call more with draws. If the board is AT3 and we have top 2 then we can check back but in general we almost always bet. Checking is just making it a lot harder to play on turns and rivers against the more aggressive opponents that like to attack weakness. If its really close situation to bet or check my advice is to always bet. It is the more +ev play and if we look at it long term you will make more profit by betting.
Flop check is good. This flop hits his range and we can't stand a checkraise. Our hand is probably ahead of his check call range but far enough behind his wide c/r range. Bit of a disaster for us when he raises us with like qj97 or similar. We only really fear an 8 or 9. The rest of the deck is playable. If a 2-6 hits turn we'll still likely be able to get some form of value from the same range that's calling flop.
I play the whole hand like you too, wp
