My "Cheat Sheet" for Mental Preperation before each session

My "Cheat Sheet" for Mental Preperation before each session

I have recently become a firm believer that positive visualization, belief in oneself, and taking time to focus and prepare your state of mind before and during each poker session gives you an integral edge. I used to play with the prevailing thought in my mind, "I can't win. I just can't catch a break." Having this thought running through your head distracts from opportunities, from feeling and trusting your gut, from seeing the value in making laydowns and cutting losses. I now like to just enjoy the green felt (I play online but like the dark green) and looking at everyone's stacks and picturing their money slowly moving towards me with every breath I take.

Of course volume is also necessary. If I take 3 or more days off usually that first day back feels tentative. Otherwise I have no more apprehension and just excitement and calmness when I sit down to play. I also encourage stretching. I can't overstate how valuable stretching so you have less soreness and better circulation can improve your mental game and how long you can play. So I've created this sheet over time to help gather my thoughts, to focus, and feel prepared. I read each line before every session and keep it open in the background. I think every poker player can benefit from such a routine.

STARTING HANDS!!! POSITION IS EVERYTHING!!!!!
FOLDING IS WINNING. CUTTING LOSSES IS WINNING.
TRUST YOUR GUT. DON'T TALK YOURSELF INTO WRONG PLAYS.
THE PAST DOESN'T MATTER. EVERYDAY. EVERY HAND. NEW HOPE BEGINS.
POKER CAN BE LAME AND GUT WRENCHING. PATIENCE. PERSPECTIVE.
Don't get mad. You can only be mad at yourself. Being mad serves opponents.
Never say ‘I CAN'T win.’ I can win. I can cut losses and WAIT for the EASY game.
ONE PAIR RARELY GOOD ENOUGH TO GO ALL IN. NEED THE NUTS.
CAREFUL IF OPPONENTS PLAY BACK. PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE
THINK BEFORE SHOVING. BETTER TO BE BLUFFED THAN BEAT.
GIVE RESPECT to RAISES (RARELY BLUFFING). MAKE LAYDOWNS.
LOSERS CALL OR GIVE FREE CARDS. PLAY HANDS YOU CAN BET BIG.
WHEN IN DOUBT OR OUT OF POSITION - PLAY SMALL BALL POKER.
DON’T BE SCARED TO ATTACK WEAKNESS, BUT AGGRESSIVE PLAY OUT OF POSITION CAN TAKE MORE BETS THAN THE POT IS WORTH.
TRY to play PERFECT. EXPECT to make MISTAKES. VOLUME = PROFICIENCY.
TODAY CAN BE COLD CARDS OR THE START OF A HOT WINNING STREAK.
INCREASES CHANCE OF …
WINNING:
Acting Last (late position)
Fewer opponents in pot
Opponent is short stacked
Betting/C-Betting/3-betting
Opponents are tight/nitty

LOSING:
Acting First (Early Position)
Multiple Opponents in pot
Opponent has a large stack
Calling/Checking
Opponents are loose/aggressive
