Re: Poker In Ontario

Hey guys this is a pretty specific question so posting here.

I've been playing 10NL on Ontario GG semi-casually for the last few months and have a pre-rake win rate of 19bb/100 over 51,000 hands (too cheap to spend money on a tracker right now so using PokerCraft to track). The sample is still pretty small but games are obviously soft and I think I have a clear edge.

My question is if its actually worth it to move up to 25NL? Hear me out. Currently on the days I play, I can grind the low stakes leaderboard and easily make it to top 3/top 5 which significantly boosts the net winrate. If I was to move up to 25NL I'd move into the "mid-stakes" leaderboard pool at the lowest level making grinding to top spots on leaderboard practically impossible. I definitely don't have the bankroll for 50NL+ and I also don't think I have enough theoretical knowledge (someone coach me pls) to compete at these stakes yet as I play a very exploitative style and bumhunt pretty hard.

A bit of a ramble, but in essence should I stick to 10NL until I have the bankroll and skill to move up to 50NL or should I move to 25NL, and if so when. Current bankroll is about $850, started from $100. Also if you have any insight on skill level/skill difference between 10NL, 25NL, 50NL, 100NL, that'd be greatly appreciated!

If you are winning over a decent sample, I would take a shot at 25nl with that roll - Even though you take a small hit leaderboard wise, you can make up for it with winrate while gaining experience in a tougher game. Also jumping from 10nl to 50nl is quite a difficult thing to do so I wouldn't recommend skipping a limit.

The skill jump from 10nl to 25nl isn't enormous, especially on a soft site. None of the jumps are entirely linear - I find many players mix stakes. Usually when you move up you see a few of the stronger regs from the previous limit and a few new guys, aggression frequencies increase a few % and fish ratios get slightly worse too.

Generally if you are beating one limit comfortably, you will do ok on the next one. If I had to say, 100nl is a tougher jump than anything before it (first limit where you can make a living in most of the world), and next would be 500nl which gets some very good 1k+ players dropping in.
