What's the deal with sandwiches?
Eggs had their day in the sun, and cereal already made it's splash. Now it's time to celebrate an old standby, the sandwich!
I'll get things started with a classic - the ham, turkey, and salami on wheat.
And a pork cutlet torta.
Took me a while to come around to the idea of a meatless sammy, but these are delicious. Marinated, grilled portabellas with pesto spread. Made sure the cheese was perfectly melted just for 27
I lied and actually couldn't do it without at least a little meat, so I fried some prosciutto til crispy and threw it on there too
Grabbed a couple banh mi's from a very legit Vietnamese place hansmolman turned me onto, Ba Le in Dorchester:
safe to assume pate on there?
Of course. Layer one, you can see it on the curl of the cross-section.
Found banh mi's way too late in the game. Feels bad man.
I've never had a banh mi. Too late?
No, but it may take a minute to appreciate for an American palate.
When I get up to MA we are totally getting banh mi's 27o.
mark - if you find yourself in houston, head towards little saigon for your first banh mi, guaranteed to be authentic.
i don't know of a specific place there, but probably an easy eater search.
edit: this place looks amazing

I can't do pate or foie gras. Just tastes like I'm eating a fatty penny.
because i wanted to watch it

What is 2024 Dorchester like? I always think of bunch of Irish/Polish low life’s like in a Dennis Lehane book or real life Marky Mark outside the packie with a baseball bat knocking out Vietnamese guys for a case of Bud.
I’m sure it’s gentrified a lot.
It's Dorchester 😆
Probably not as gritty as in the past, but I wouldn't go feeling safe at 2am. I'd say mildly gentrified, with the same Vietnamese community/black community sections it has always been.
I didn't eat lettuce on my sandwich until my twenties and I'm still not a huge fan of raw tomato (besides tacos) but a BLT with a slice of cheddar is one of the best sandwiches out there.
french roll
pork loin and ham
smoked gouda, pickle, jalapeno, shallot
dijon and yellow, both frenchs
A spicy French Cubano!
Sounds and looks mighty tasty.
ces sandwichs sont superbes je t'aime
would enjoy, nice work Red.
round two
spouse ate the pickle slice, mine diced into relish with jalapeno and scallion
why use 2 different pans?
good question. there was moisture in the meat/veg pan that i didn't want to try to toast in, and spouse wanted to make her own so using the comal freed up the pan for her.
