Kidney stones are the nut low

Kidney stones are the nut low

Going through my first one right now. Was in the ER yesterday in excruciating pain. Morphine and a double dose of Dilauded did nothing.

This is seriously horrible pain and I don’t wish this on anyone. Can’t sit, can’t stand, can’t lay down, can’t sleep, can’t relax. Literally curled into a fetal position a couple times.

The hospital says it’s 4.2mm big which is right on the cusp of them needing to break it apart. They decided not to so I get to enjoy passing this au naturale.

This sucks.

I get about two hours per day pain free. Other than that, it’s constant.

I highly highly highly recommend everyone drinks more water just to avoid these. Apparently a high protein diet, which I eat, also contributes to it. So switching out meat for veggies now and less sodium. No way will I ever want to go through this again.

A guy over in the LLSNL forum had one they had to break up, which they did by

He now carries the sobriquet Laser Dick.

That sounds horrible but if it helps, I’m all for it. Shoot, that nickname alone is worth it.

Dick Laser would be a good name for the hero in a cheesy spy movie.

When a woman tells a man that the condition he's in is more painful than childbirth, you know it's the real deal, and that happened to me with a kidney stone.

What unhydration does to a mf.

I thought I was having a kidney stone attack and went to the ER. They did a cat scan and discovered a cancerous tumor on my kidney. It was the size of a golf ball.

To make a long story short, they removed a portion of my kidney. That was 4 years ago.

My son had one about a year ago that he passed just after going through all the expensive medical diagnostics. It was tough to watch him go through it. Last I heard the stone was in a revered spot on his dresser. I hate to think he has a lifetime of "Lookout! Stones ahead!" to look forward to.

Good luck, doc!

This was actually a fear of mine. My brother was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer not too long ago. Was relieved to find it’s just a stone.

Thanks! I’m on the fence about keeping mine once it passes. The sooner it’s out of my life, and body, the better!

load it into a bb gun and have it kill something

4.2mm might be a little too big for a BB gun but I like where your head is at!

EDIT: googled it and you’re right that it just might be the correct size!

Fun fact about kidney stones - the pain wraps around to your testicles and makes them feel like they’re in a vise.

I had kidney stones twice in the last 4 years. First one was excrutaitingly painful. Had to go to ER they scanned me gave me pain meds and sent me to Urologist. The pain pills worked until I could go in to get it sonically blasted to bits. Then I was fine. But a year later another one showed up on an xray. It was still high in the kidney so i couldn't feel it yet. He gave me an option of waiting and trying to pass it or just getting this one blasted too. Remembering the pain I just got it vaporized. Kidney stone pain is no joke. I need to get another xray in a couple of weeks before I see the urologist again. Hopefully it will be clean but if not I get the damn thing blasted before the pain.

The things they told me to avoid were sodium, peanuts, spinach, kale, and brown sodas.

I read somewhere that tea is no bueno.

Yeah, I think tht was on the "no" list too but I never drink it so it didn't register with me. I used to juice a lot with spinach and kale and it felt strange to have a doctor tell me to lay off of that stuff since it seems like the healthiest thing you can have. Apparantly it can calcify which helps cause the stones.

Kidney stone pain, is it when the stone moves from the kidney to the bladder or from the bladder on out?

by Tuma k

I read somewhere that tea is no bueno.

I think it’s any caffeinated beverage because it can dehydrate you. But I’m not sure since I don’t drink caffeine.

Kidney to the bladder for now for me. A narrow tube called the ureter. It can get stuck in there sometimes but it also has a series of muscles that run along it. Those muscles spasm to try to push the stone out. My understanding is the pain is the spasms.
