Lol that video is great.
Gutted. Former Allman Brothers Band member and Great Southern leader Dickie Betts passed.
Post ABB, he played a show (two sets) over the bar at the Harrah's Ak Chin down in Maricopa for free. I'm going to guess 2005. This was in the bar in the middle of the casino, stage was behind the VP bar, open to the casino, and easily 95% of the casino was oblivious to the situation. Me and maybe 20 others were there to see the show. I always wondered how he got roped into that gig.
RIP Dickie
loved me an ABB show
I only saw him once. He was at the same sparsely attended Billy Joe Shaver gig as I at some dive in Nashville in the mid '80s. Billy Joe invited him on stage to play a couple of songs with him. Billy's teenage son Eddy handed him his guitar and Dickey plucked it a few times, shook his head, thrust it back at Eddy, and returned to his seat without saying a word. Eddy continued to accompany Billy Joe for the next couple of songs while furiously tuning his guitar. Eddy eventually motioned to Dickey to come back and take his guitar and Betts did so and played with Billy Joe for a bit before handing the guitar back to Eddy.
I have thought Dickey was the biggest ass in the world for treating a kid like that ever since then up until I checked Wikipedia for a link to Eddy for this post. I had no idea he taught the kid to play, but it showed. Eddy could really play.
RIP Billy Joe
RIP Eddy
RIP Dickey
he conjoined his twin brother Dickey Betts in passing
seems to happen a lot in florida
When I first moved out here, saw some version of the Allmans at Red Rocks. Not sure if Dickie was part of that show, but I do remember a 16+ minute version of Jessica in which everybody jammed. That was pretty good.
Howie Schwab.
ESPN sure seemed a lot more fun back then.
RIP Lawrence Dalrymple
RIP Duane Eddy
Gotta find a Spyhunter sim.
