How on earth did you ever get accepted into this college?

Well I walked trough the school like a goose.They accepted me because I had a handicap place otherwise they wouldn't accept me.
I studied in school like a goose and I had no idea what subject I liked because I hated school.
After I finish college I'm thinking of plagiating because I have nothing in common with the college which I picked.I'm not original and I have 0 formal education(maybe the internet is education but I have no idea if this is the right place)!

Ok but even still, since you knew how to write the paragraph above you should know how to search some sites and combine it into your own words what they're saying (maybe I'm being too biased coming from a talented and gifted program, I finished tests in 4 minutes while watching everyone else squirm over them but I soon realized how controlling and false our whole education system is). College is over rated.

Half the point of a paper like this is you're supposed to research the topic so you know what to write.

like the fact you don't even know where to begin is insane

furthermore, there's absolutely zero chance this was a randomly assigned project, it's not like you're in a Russian Literature or Biology class and got assigned this project.

the subject is therefore either directly related to course material, or adjacent enough that you should have a natural stepping stone knowing what to do going forward

you're clearly lost here not knowing anything about how to handle this logistically as well as content

your professor is your ally here, go to his office hours, explain like you have here that you are a goose and literally never had to do anything like this before and don't even know where to begin - they will appreciate that and help you out - this is the only way you can not only do this project correctly but also learn how to do these things going forward (tasks like this are going to be a regular and recurring theme throughout college so it's not about surviving this one but actually learning how to do it yourself - which is frankly what college is all about, turning geese into men)

and furthermore, if you just chatgpt this project, the likelihood of you getting caught is very high and you'll be kicked out of the university when that happens and it eventually will happen - not to mention that chatgpt won't understand the assignment either as you don't even understand it, so even if you don't get caught for cheating - it's highly unlikely whatever chat gpt answer you have (or one found on reddit) is going to be of much use

We're talking about 20 PowerPoint slides not about a dissertation. Ask the question, read the output, identify bullet points, ask additional questions.

If you have basic knowledge you train your custom LLM with your previous work (papers or whatever you wrote) and tell it to use the info you gathered on the subject and put it into an output that sounds like you wrote it. Use that output to build your slides.

He should at least be able to answer follow up questions about the things that he asked ChatGPT for details about. Certainly not ideal but much better than the alternative of not having a usable presentation at all.

Without a list of source material like books or papers, the goal is internet research anyway. Pretty sure 2 hours of making notes from Google search results gets you almost exactly where max. 5 ChatGPT prompts got you.

FWIW, ZeroGPT which is probably the most well known AI detector out there (and claims to be the most accurate one) thinks 92-96% of the US Constitution was written by AI.

this is not an uncommon occurrence in college to be asked to write a paper

he clearly has no idea how to go about it - taking a chatgpt cheating approach may work occasionally, but he won't ever learn how to do this

he very clearly needs some extra support and going to his professor's office hours and coming clean that he has utterly no clue what this assignment requires nor how to even start is the only way he's going to learn

he's going to have to do at least one of these every month

Using AI is absolutely the correct starting point if you have no idea. 30 years ago people went to the library to read a bunch of abstracts to figure out what to write. 15 years ago people did the same but on Google Scholar.

If I ask ChatGPT for a list of relevant research papers about "The Importance of Telecommunications in the shipping/maritime transport" it shows me results from the following journals: Maritime Policy and Management; Journal of Navigation; International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics; Journal of Transport Geography; and Marine Technology Society Journal.

The "plagiarism" issue with a paper like that is failure to correctly cite. There's no original work in there, just a brief overview including citations. That's the expectation and using AI saves an absurd amount of time.

I highly doubt there ever was a time where the main thing in college wasn't to graduate? Unless you study philosophy or brit lit maybe.

I mean if you are on your last year of college what's wrong with using reddit or CHATGPT as a tool to make your bachelor's degree?
I'm a simple human being who doesn't have this formal education like others and it's very difficult to be educated by the internet when you have 0 support from your family.

If you do, this IS how formal education works. You are given tasks and are expected to learn what is required to perform the tasks.

You can't plagiarize unless someone else had that same assignment in the past and you copy their work.

The assignment is to summarize other people's work and cite it properly.

Don't worry about your final year in college, odds for you to get there are marginal anyway.
