Android thread 2025
What are the Android bros using these days?
I have a pixel 6a and need an upgrade. Anyone have the 9 or 9 pro? I'm wonder
I have a Pixel 7 Pro which is still perfectly fine. No issues or holdups with it. But still I've had it approaching 3 years now, so I figure I'll start thinking about what comes next.
When I got the 7 I assumed my next one would be another Google, but with their recent moves threatening to cut off sideloading, I'm reconsidering. Android is so much worse an experience in terms of polish and their ecosystem. The openness of the platform is the only reason I use it.
So I've been looking at what to do about that, and the answer is clearly GrapheneOS. However Google is ALSO trying to make it more difficult for GrapheneOS's developers (as well as everyone else) to ship on Pixel hardware. That Pixels have been so open is again one of their great selling points.
So GrapheneOS's response is to be working on a "flagship" phone for GrapheneOS, coming in 2027. The manufacturer is speculated to be Motorola, but is not actually disclosed right now.
I'll wait to see what comes of that before I do anything. If GrapheneOS ships native on an actually good phone, I'm buying that. If nothing comes of the native phone, and GrapheneOS still runs on new Pixels, when I need to replace I'll probably get the dual screen Pixel at the time.
If GrapheneOS dies, I have no idea what I'll do yet. But Android is too trashy to use if it doesn't remain open.

That's cool. I went Pixel 3 -> 6 -> 10
I put Graphene on my old Pixel 3. It's a little above my tech comfort to try on a new phone. I might put it on my 6 and play around with it. A native Graphene phone would be nice.

Graphene has been the nuts for the past few years, but now google tryna **** us over. If graphene can't deliver on a native phone I think I'll try a linux phone. Maybe a

Yeah DECENT chance I go Linux if Graphene's efforts falter, and Google goes global with the war on sideloading.
It's been screening my parents and my vet calls for at least a month. I talked to my girlfriend and calls are being screened by her uncle, the auto shop, her best friend, etc.... not sure what update triggered this, but it shouldn't happen. I turned it off. That was googles recommendation which is terrible.
I turned it off and just keep my phone on DND with contacts whitelisted. If my phone rings its gotta be somebody I know or they went direct to vmail and very few calls actually leave messages
