My first time doing squares. Is there a reason a board can't run with smaller payouts if it doesn't fill?

It CAN, but it's annoying. Two years ago I tried the "every score change" board for the first time and did $250 per square. It wasn't filling so I dropped it to $125, cut all the payouts in half, and doubled the number of squares everyone had(well, the first 50 who had signed up). Same thing last year, started at $200 but dropped it to $100, took the first 50 entries, and doubled everyone's squares. But last year I stated in the OP that's what I'd do if necessary. This year I said I definitely wasn't doing that, so if I change my mind, I'll need to PM everyone who signed up for the $150s(30 people as of now) and ask if they want a refund or want to go along with whatever changes are made. It sounds trivial, but it's a major time suck and a lot of the folks aren't on 2p2 daily so no telling when they'll see my message. And waiting to hear back from people puts it all at a standstill as I'm not running it without having had a chance to talk to every person.

And making any big changes without making sure everyone is on board can cause other headaches. All it takes is one person to come back in and say that's not what they signed up for and agreed to and I get put in a position I don't want to be in. In the sports betting forum they'll often run squares boards with blank squares and reduced payouts. If the winning square is one nobody had, that money would roll over to the next winner. If the final score was a blank square, the payout reverted back to the previous winner.

I don't want a board that's 30% empty, but if people want it to run and are ok with there being a certain number of blank ones(maybe 10 or less), it certainly CAN happen. It would just be a matter of deciding how to handle any wins by the blank squares. Does that money roll over to the next winner, or do we base the payouts off how many non blank square score changes there were.

Sorry for the wall of text. It's a leak I've tried to fix.

tl;dr cliffs: I don't like to make changes without asking each person if they're ok with those changes or if they want their money back. Right now there are 30 people I'd have to contact about the $150 squares and some can take days to respond.
