I inadvertently turn on CNN and saw a commercial for some Elton John documentary they're running. In the trailer somebody said he was undoubtedly the biggest pop music artist in the world at his peak. I had to look up his hits. all mediocre. Give me Lady Gaga over that all day.

The company I work for built a new corporate HQ. I wanted to check it out so I showed up today. The building is beautiful and and has all the latest tech nonsense - just a pleasure to be in.
I found a place to work on the second floor. The only coffee bar I have found is on the 1st floor. No worries.
It is an L shaped staircase. I cruise down to get my coffee and when I got the to lower floor, something just felt - off.
Well, counted the stairs on the way back up. 20 steps to the landing, 21 steps to the second floor.
That ain't gonna work.
They may as well tear the whole place down and try again. JFC.

Yeah. I was like what the hell is wrong with doing that. I mean I have done that at times. And while I may have double-checked the count if I was making regular trips up and down, I have never made a special trip to run the numbers. I was more like don't count twice, it's all right.

My wife always counts steps and it upsets her world when this happens. We were recently going up the side of a steep hill in a park. We stopped at a landing about 2/3 the way up and I asked (without saying anything else), "how many?" She said something like, "18, 23, 16, 21, 9, 12, 19. They couldn't even get two sets to match."
