What are the optimal drawing rules in badeucy/badacey?

Hi all,

In badeucy and badacey, the goal I presume is to make a strong one-way hand for one half of the pot or a strong scooping hand for both halves of the pot. Sometimes we have the option to draw 2 or 1 to improve our badugi chances or our low chances.

For example, in badacey we are dealt A24r and draw a 6 after the first draw, still without a badugi. We can keep the 6 or pitch two again and draw to a stronger overall hand, or one which reduces our badugi chances but improves our low chances.

In badeucy, we might have 234r and draw a 7 or 8 with no badugi yet, and have a similar choice.

Now, when we arrive after the second draw and still have no badugi, but improve our low, does that change things?

I also wonder whether these decisions change depending on whether we are heads up or multi-way and the number of cards others are drawing.

Thanks,
DT

There is no easy answer / rule of thumb for this, but yes things change drastically HU vs Multiway

Holm is right, but in general you want to think badugi first. With a strong 3 card and a wheel draw, I will just draw one most of the time. Keeping a 6/8 is not nearly as good

So in general if you are multiway 3+ players and you are making the choice, are you going for the strongest scooping hand possible and still drawing two? But heads up drawing one?

I don't understand this - you say to think Badugi first but then say you will draw just one, seemingly putting the 5 card hand the main priority.

Only when I am drawing to a Wheel. I'd D2 from 2346 or 2348 in B2; and D2 from A246

This is correct but the Badacey example is much closer. You also have to acknowledge that the more multiway, the fewer of your scoop cards are going to be out there. Or just cards that are going to improve your hand in general

Sure. If we are 4 ways to the first draw, our live cards are likely few; I'll keep an A246 for example there for sure.

Yeah, making a 6 in BA is much better than making an 8, since there is only 1 '5' and there are 4 sevens.

Your second point is more important. Card removal/blocking effects can be huge in these triple draw hands. Had a fun one yesterday in BA where I was dealt AA33 double suited, so I had great blockers even with my draw 3, and scooped a 3 way pot (I had called a single raise from the BB).

How do you guys account for blockers being presumably less valuable in loose games where there is often a reshuffle?
