Reported hand from $10K NL 2-7 SD
I assume by stood pack the 2nd time, they mean checked. It was the bubble. Sternheimer had about 200K behind and Negreanu had him easily covered. Did Negreanu not 4! shove figuring he wouldn't get called? Why would Sternheimer 3! on the bubble as a shortish stack? Was Negreanu trapping postdraw? Is it standard for the pat player to check? That #5 is a huge single draw hand.

Daniel Negreanu raised to 25,000 from the small blind and was three-bet to 85,000 by Philip Sternheimer in the big blind. Negreanu called.
Negreanu stood pat and Sternheimer drew one. Both players then stood pat and Negreanu fanned out 8

Sternheimer sent his hand into the muck and Negreanu added to his stack as the money bubble continues.

Have to assume Negreanu was going for a check-raise post draw?
He was trapping pre and post draw. When he calls a 3-bet and pats, his hand looks a lot like a J or T low. So he pats, then checks to induce bluffs from all of the other guy's missed draws, as well as mistaken value bets when the guy draws a 9 or a worse 8. The only question is should he have 4-bet jammed predraw, expecting a call? 85432 is the effective nuts, and the other player is often drawing dead to that hand.
