Drama dugi

Hi all,

Limit dramadugi. Limits 50/75. Ep opens we defend bb heads up with KQJ65 Q dugi.

Flop K32dd. We don’t have diamonds (just one). We check he bets, we raise, he calls. We Pat, he d1.

Turn 9. We bet he calls.

River 8, no flush. We check he bets.

Thanks,
DT

We could discuss each decision, but one stands out to me. Why did you pat? Which card is the K suited with? Why not ditch that card, and keep the K? Yes, your dugi is now slightly worse, but how often will a K dugi lose when a Q would win? And that would give you a shot at improving your Omaha hand significantly.

I thought it was better to keep the queen dugi than try to make a flush draw. I think the queen was a diamond. The king was a heart. Makes sense.

In general should I be defending these weak badugis?

You're not just trying to pick up a flush draw. You're also trying to improve your top pair hand by catching a 2, 3, or K. I don't have a lot of experience with this variation of dramaha, so I'm not certain if this is an automatic defend or not. But I suspect it is, unless maybe the raiser is known to be very nitty.

I'd fold this preflop. We have nowhere to go with our Dugi draw, so even the times that Villain has a 3 card, we are going to be facing a bet we don't want to see on the flop. So we will be putting in 2 Bets to win 6.5 bets. (well, 6.75 with the 2/3 ante)

How is our equity? For the hand side, we are dead vs his Dugis, and only a little less than 2-1 vs his draws. Made Dugis will make up most of an EP range however. Our hand is only OK, we have some connectivity with the KQJ, but the 65 aren't working well with the rest of his hand.

You will just find yourself trying to get your own money back, and being free rolled a huge percentage of the time.

As played, we get a good flop, but even here our hand is only OK. Top pair with a gutter isn't terrible, and we are ahead of his range, as he doesn't have much Kx. Still that 32 interacts well with a lot of his good dugis, usually giving him at least a pair, and when it isn't he might well be wrapped around the 32 a lot.

Check Raising when he might be free rolling us is...courageous. Unless you have a lot of slow plays pre, he will usually be free rolling us with his made dugis, and knows this. I don't get the turn bet at all. He drew one, unless he has the NFD, he just always has a dugi better than ours.

The river, you have to just put the money in. This was about as good a runout as you can get. If you are beat for the board, well, that is why it is bad to playing this hand in the first place. No scoop potential, not a great chance to have the nuts on the board, OOP against a strong range.

I think you played it alright and should call river hoping he lacks a better dugi. Any dugi will win heads up quite a bit in this game and you didn't know you'd end up with just one pair until the river. When he lacks a better dugi you're printing until the river and even when he has one that beats you, you probably have a lot of outs to win the board with your double gutter and 2 pair outs. If he's a thinking player he might raise turn with some marginal dugis given you didn't 3 bet preflop but if you ever sacrifice preflop equity because he's a guy who cbets a lot, you'll really do well when he doesn't think good dugis are in your patting range.
