Comparing 2-7 and A-5

Comparing 2-7 and A-5

Superficially similar games, but anyone who has ever made a straight in 2 realizes why they are different.

What I am wondering here, and there is no 'right' answer...How much harder is it to make a given hand in 2?

By that, I mean, a number X in A-5 is comparable to a number X+ (or X times) some extra amount.

I'd like to get a feeling for the relative hand strengths. I have played a lot of 2, but only a little A-5. I struggle with what to do with 7s, both on the first draw (should we be ditching them?) and how strong a made 7 is.

I do realize this is a super general question, and so much depends on position, # of opponents, blockers, how many everyone is drawing and on and on...

Part of playing a pat 7 will depend on how many opponents you have (MW breaking generally better), position (break OOP more), and the smoothness of your draw. If you break a pat 7, you'll improve 43-44% of the time and another 12-13% of the time you'll redraw a 7.
