Just had the worst session of my life
Spent the weekend at best bet in jax FL
I'm a pretty solid holdem player. Have booked many winning sessions at 1/2 1/3 stakes and find it to be my bread in butter when I can find the right tables.
But this past weekend I experienced the worst variance so far had AA cracked 7 times in 2 nights. Got dealt KK once and no action at all. Seems like the tables full of fish and older nits chasing a high hand are now replaced with grinders and gto wizards. The few tables that I found with the right action I got sucked out on and 1 and 2 outered out of almost 3500 over the weekend.
Some highlights:
I was in sb in tge 2/2 game with about 150 bb
Had 5 limpers to me in the sb with AJ hearts
I raise to 25 lj calls and co [125bb] calls
Flop 4s 4h 10h
I c bet to 35 lj folds Co calls
Turn is k d
I bet 75
Co calls
River is brick 5 c
I shove for 57.5 bb ef
Co tanks for about 15 seconds and calls
He turns over 22 and scoops the pot.
Later that night I found myself at the same table with the player from the previous hand
I'm on the button [400bb] and get dealt
AA it's raised to 15 from the utg 2
I 3bet to 60 utg 2[300bb] calls
Flop comes 2 6 10 rainbow
Utg 2 checks I bet 55
Utg 2 calls
Turn comes Q s
Utg 2 checks again
I bet 200 utg 2 calls
River comes A d
Utg 2 checks I shove for 142.5 bb ef
Utg 2 tanks for 30 seconds or so and makes the call I show my top set he slow rolls kj off for runner runner Broadway.
This guy just had my number I don't think ever experienced as much variance as I did this weekend it has me almost wanting to stop playing holdem all together.

I am very curious as to what your VP?IP was at that table. It sounds like he had a good read on you.
Some Players just don't care .. they are just going to call you down 'every' time until you break them .. or prove that you have it. VPiP is huge. Bet sizing, bet patterns and timing tells are huge in the live game I'm sure you know that.
Why such a small sizing with AA? Did you have a pattern of that even if you whiff or do you check when you miss Flops? When you have an opponent who is going to 'just calling anyway' then you can charge them more in those spots when you think you are ahead.
35 into 80 on 44T is OK I guess .. but then you 'only' go 50% on the K, which should hit your range .. did that indicate you still missed?
It's possible that neither of these two hands was avoidable just due to the opponent. It's almost impossible to weed those opponents out of the mental side of our results.
Did you play the hand 'well'? Is there a reality to 'having a number' or did variance just get us? If you are giving something away, then work on fixing it. Unfortunately it could be the right way to play against this guy and the wrong way to play against a different opponent .. that's where the skill in live poker comes from. GL
I know sometimes it can be rough but I think you need to look back on the AA hands and really evaluate if you got it in with the best hand.
AA getting cracked preflop is one thing.
Not being able to fold AA on the river of a super wet board is a leak that should be fixed. Not saying that’s you but I’m sure some of those 7 times had to have been a fold.
Yes variance is usually underestimated by many players. I have had nights in which I stack off others with set over set 4 times within an hour. And I also had nights in which I cant win a hand in 6 hours. You have to encounter these situation to truly know how cruel the variance of this game is.
